You should definitely buy the 2007 edition as there are changes to the GRE this year. I know for a fact that they are changing how tests are done (there is only one test at a set time per day as opposed to the current random questions from the test bank). They are also playing around with the analytical sections but I'm not sure if that has changed yet.
As for me, I used Kaplan and did well. I don't think the brand matters as much. They essentially say the same thing; you just have to find the one that works with your personality.

YES IT MATTERS!!!
The GRE is changing soon. I can't remember when, but check the ETS website for full information.
I used The Princteton Review's "Cracking the GRE: 2006 Edition" and it really helped me prepare. I've always done well on standardized tests, but the vocabulary on the GRE is killer. This is a great guide to prepare for the test. (I got above average scores in all categories and a perfect score in the writing section!)

WORD POWER MADE EASY - BARRON
The best preparatory book is you yourself.
Just try using some difficult words while you are speaking to others, and answer any doubts if asked on it.
