The department I wanted told me my GPA alone would get me in, so it was purely to satisfy the requirement of taking it for the admissions office. I don't know if they still score out of 800 like they did when I took it, but I ended up with a verbal in the 600's (slightly above average in my field), a math in the mid 700's (lower side of average for my field), and a perfect writing score.
