PostHeaderIcon What the best ways to prepare for the GRE general test and biology subject test?

Looking for info on gre preparation classes, gre preparation courses, gre test course and more?

Hi and welcome to my blog,

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!

I am taking both tests later in the year, and need to know the best ways to prepare, and what to expect. All well-thoughtout responses are appreciated, but I prefer someone who has taken at least one of the tests. Thank-you.

I took the GRE general test- I bought "GRE for Dummies" and literally didn’t open it until 10 days before the test. It’s short enough that you can get through it easily- there was no way I was ever going to read the entire 500-page Princeton review. I also found LOTS of free practice questions online just by doing a google search for "free GRE questions" or something like that. Like I said, I started preparing 10 days before, and my scores were 550 and 660- most grad schools require a combined score of 800, better schools require a combined 1000. As long as you meet the minimum score your school requires, there’s no real advantage to getting a higher score- grad schools place far more weight on college GPA, what school you went to, any internships or experience or your undergrad thesis.

I’m not sure if it’s still an option, but if you can, take the paper-based test! I was given a choice and took the computer-based just because it had more available dates. I was traumatized by the computer-based. You had to answer every question before you went on to the next question, and you could not go back and change answers. I spent so much time watching the clock and freaking out about how much time I’d spent on a hard question, and trying to decide if I should guess or think about it another minute- I had no idea it would be like that. On ever other standardized test I’ve ever taken, you were advised to skip hard questions and come back to them at end. The computer-based format made it so much harder in that respect.

Sorry, I cna’t help you with the biology test. Good luck though!
