To apply for engineering courses in american universities is GRE subject test necessary?

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.

I’m an Indian resident. To apply for an engineering course in top univ like MIT,say in electronics, do i need to write the GRE subject test or would just the General Test do?
