The GRE is an illogical exam.?

Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!
I am signed up to take a GRE prep course in March. I am in favor of the standardized test like the SAT and such but I really don’t agree with the weight that the GRE holds when applying for graduate school. Think about it. Most go to college and major in ONE thing. For me, I was a Public Relations major. I was required to take only 3 hours worth of math. Yet, I have to do an entire section of math on the GRE and it isn’t all basic math either. Plus, the vocabulary section is crap. It asks you for definitions of words that are not commonly used. Seriously, the meanings of some of those words are outdated and NOBODY uses them in the form that is being asked. If we have to take the exam, fine, but schools shouldn’t put the bulk of their decision on the score. They need to look at all factors like GPA, etc.It all needs to be balanced equally. I was good enough to get into college and graduate but the GRE is trying make us prove we are good enough to keep going? What do you guys think?
Look at it this way, a graduate degree should be something that sets people apart from college graduates (otherwise, why get one?) If all schools just based their decisions on college acceptance and graduation, then it would probably lower the aptitude pool of graduate students. I for one, would not want a Math, chemisty, or physics major being considered comparable to a travel industry major. Nothing wrong with travel industry, but the rigor is just not the same as other majors.
I am not sure where you are from, but where I live most college students have to take remedial classes. Rigor is absent from many high schools and even colleges, so graduate schools need a way to ensure that they pick students who are most likely to succeed. They don’t want increased drop out rates. No money and no prestige in drop outs. Unless you consider Bill Gates, the most successful College drop-out
The GRE is an annoyance because it can be so outside a persons comfort zone. Just remember to study, and take that class. I was scared of the GRE, too. I studied and sat in on some classes. I was an English Education major, so the math was really scary for me. I just did my best to memorize the formulas. After I received my scores, I felt like an idiot for wasting time worrying. Practice tests downloaded from ETS really helped me; they were harder than the "real" one.
Good luck! And congrats on your public relations degree!
I differ from your view. GRE tests your verbal and math levels to its best. Good GRE scores indicates ones good acumen and bad score indicates ones lack of skill in verbal and math.
