Should I buy a GRE study guide with or without a CD-ROM?

Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!
I will be taking the GRE in the fall and I am looking into books that will help me prepare for the test. I have decided that I would like to get the basic Barron’s GRE study guide. However, I do not know whether or not I should get a book with a CD. I know I will be taking the test on the computer. What should I do?
Need advice before starting MBA Finance program/ havent been to college in 14 years?
Graduated with ComSci major/Bus Adm minor in 1994. I work full time and want to go back for MBA in Finance. I don’t want to feel overwhelmed so I wonder….Would you advise preparing for just taking the GRE? or would you advise taking courses to re-acquaint myself with college coursework. I’m dreading taking classes with a pace that is suited for grads fresh out of college vs someone who hasn’t been to college in 14 years HELP??
Any advice or tips on how to prepare for the GREs?
So I’m taking the GRE exam this year. I’ve already been practicing with books (the Kaplan books seems to be more helpful than the Princeton Review in my opinion). I wanted to know if anyone out there who has already taken the exams and got a good score had any tips on how to be well prepared. Also, is the exam anything like the problems they show you in the books?? I want to make sure so I’m not wasting my time.
I’d love any kind of advice. Thank you!

How important are GRE scores in regards to Graduate school acceptance?
Im taking the GRE in a few days and my score has been decent and suddenly I got nervous during two practice exams and did very poorly. I have studied for the past few months and feel like Im still not doing well. Im applying to school for Fall 2007 and am doing everything last minute.
I am applying for an MPH program and I am strong in aspects of really good letter of recs, a 3.8 GPA , and a lot of work and volunteer experience. What type of role does the GRE play in regards to acceptance , and If I don’t do well or If I dont do excellent am I doomed…..not in life , but for Grad school?
Any advise would be appreciated , I am very stressed and just need some pre-exam confidence I guess.
I'm a computer engineer and want to do Master of Science in USA. I don't know where to start.?
I completed Bachelor of Bomputer Engineering, and now want to continue the engineering to master level. I’m a good programmer, especially c# and asp.NET. My first question is I’m not sure which course is more related to programming and computer stuffs. My choices are Master of Science in IT (security/database/system) or Master of Science in Software Engineering. I would appreciate suggestions with more choices. My gpa is not that awesome. 2.73 and i’m taking the GRE test on january 26th. How do I contact some good universities? Do I write mail to them or some professors belonging there.. I have loads of confusions, the basic is I don’t know where and how to start.
oh that’s Bachelor of *Computer Engineer i mean, my bad :$
very well written portray of life in usa. i’m not an indian though. i’m a good student, grades dont suggest but i am. and i would like to know if there’s any way i can impress a good university and they can admit me. I’ve been programming since 6 years or so now. For experience, I made 000+ from advertising (google adsense), i have a sound musical knowledge. i play guitar, classical/gypsy and electric. being a science student i have marketing skills as well (i’ve sold inverters in a big scale). will these things impress the university? and i’m expecting a 1300+ GRE score. I just want a masters degree from a decent if not the best university.
Am I being ridiculous or my parents? I am 21 lol?
I have 4.0 GPA and this summer I am taking a intensive summer course which will save me about 3-4 k at least in tuition and I am taking the GRE which is like a super intensive SAT for graduate school in July. I have a summer job and the job is eating up all my time. I am working 11 hr days as it is and in order to do the proper amount of studying to do well on the GRE I will have to manage to make it 13 hr days even though I am physically super exhausted from my job as a farm hand. I am quitting my job but my parents are mad because they think I won’t have enough work to do. Like WTF! I still would have to work at least 8 hr days and between dooing chores and favors eating and sleeping I won’t have any free time. Any time I usually do have I like to spend learning to program so I can do some entrepreneurial stuff on the side. They think this because I would sleep in on weekends when I came home from school. Like I don’t even party, I am going to become professor. WTF. I am I being ridiculous or are my parents slave drivers? This is my lunch break – I just finished working from 7- 12.
I have Dyscalculia and I want attend Grad School for Library Science?
I earned my BA in History from San Francisco State, but while I was attending school I worked in the school library’s circulation department where I learned how to checkout books, deal with patrons, and learn how to read call numbers (mostly Library of Congress) in which I gained an interest in working in a library. (I have loved libraries since I was a kid)
As of now I am working on my Library Tech degree at City College of SF (I will finish the Library Tech program this fall semester) and I plan on taking the GRE in August so I can fulfill the requirement to go to Grad School either at San Jose State or UCLA for Library & Information Science. I have just recently passed the cataloging requirement for the Library tech course with a B grade the class itself was very detailed oriented and had a lot of numbers.
For most of my life I did well on most subjects, I was average in writing, but was terrible at math and to this day I still have trouble with math especially my times tables which is a source of shame & embarrassment, but now the GRE requirement has reared it’s ugly head I have read most of the material and the math always stumps me.
I was wondering if math is a major requirement for Library & Information science and if so I worry that my hopes of getting into Grad School will be blown out of the water!! Please help!!
PLEASE! Chemistry graduate schools should I apply to with a 2.5 GPA? Most people don't apply for the MS right?
I ruined my GPA my freshman and sophomore year so it’s only a 2.5 overall. However my GPA for my last 60 hours is a 2.988. I have decent research experience and solid recommendation letters. I am taking the GRE next month and I have been studying months so I am expecting a competitive score. Of course I already know that schools look at the whole package but of course top tier 1 schools aren’t going to be as lenient. Any suggestions of schools I should apply to? From my research it seems that most of the California State Universities (long beach, Sacramento, LA, san diego, san jose) don’t specifically have GPA and GRE requirements but I keep reading that they are extremely difficult to get into but I don’t know if that applies to graduate school. Also, I applying for the MS only and I know most people apply for phD so I should have a pretty good chance right? I am also thinking that there aren’t that many chemistry students period so that might increase my chances? Also, at these big universities typically how many spots are available?

Is it better to guess on an exam even though I will lose 1/4 of a point for each wrong answer?
I am taking the GRE Psychology exam in Nov. On this paper exam, wrong answers cost 1/4 of a point but there is no penalty for not answering questions.
Have you either taken and/ or administered the GRE, and if so, what are the best GRE test prep materials?
I’m interested in taking the GRE. I am not interested in taking the classes. Are the same materials used in prep courses available to the general public? What are the materials?
Can anyone direct me to where online I can purchase old GRE exams? For practice?
I’m taking the GRE fairly soon and I’ve heard that the best way to study for the GRE is to get past exams and find patterns in the questions that they ask, so I was curious to find out if anyone knew of any websites where I could buy them. I have googled but haven’t been lucky! Thanks for your help!
Is the GRE exam really difficult? Do graduate schools really penalize you for not doing so great?
I’ve been studying for the GRE, and no matter how many tips or hints, or techniqueson how to take the test, I just seem to do average to below average on all the practice exams. Even if I study vocabulary, logic, and basic math, I still cannot seem to do as well as I would like. Its like I either get it, or I don’t. I am a very intelligent person, and Do very well in my Environmental profession, but when it coems to writing, vocabulary, and math-comparisons, I suck. I am taking the GRE’s in a few weeks, and I’ve been studying/practicing for the past 2 months, but I see no improvement in my ability to do well on the test. I had a B average in college in a pretty difficult major, so will graduate school not accept me based on this test? Will they deny me higher education because I’m not the best test taker?
I went to a crappy school, completed, now I want to play with the big boys?
I went to Devry which by the sounds of my peers from other colleges, wasn’t so bad, but left me with to many questions to walk away from my education. I want to go to a really good school to further my education and sense I have my B.S. I would expect to work towards a M.S. degree. However, I am about to take my first grad course, without taking the GRE, school doesn’t require it. It’s a super hard school, top in the North Central US or something. I want to get some other opinions. If I don’t go for my masters, I could go for my FE license, or just continue working. I could also take some undergrad courses at night or weekends to help strenghten my skills. Anything is a possiblity.
The main dilima I have, besides to lazy to use spell checker on Yahoo Answers, is that I am not very confident in my ability to understand and interpret the the knowledge I will be subjected too. Perhaps because its such a big step, and its completely volunteer, unlike undergradate rigid daily schedule.?
Question about GRE exam?
I am a junior at USF. I am going to be getting my PhD in Psychology. My question is, is the GRE exam the same for everyone in any field? My friend is going to be a speech pathologist and is talking about taking the GRE exam also. I would think that the exam would be related to the degree in which you are going for, not just a general exam. My friend was talking to a speech pathologist and that person gave her a review book for the GRE exam so we can study for it together. Can anyone tell me if its just a general exam like the SATs or is it specifically related to what you are going for? Also how much does it cost each time you take it?
Also do you have to have your bachelor’s degree before taking the exam or can you do it before?
Which GRE prep course in NYC is the very best?
Hi, I am taking the GRE in 2 months and need very extensive preparation. I know that many of you would say that taking a course is a waste of money and that it is more beneficial to just buy the books and study myself- but that does not work for me. I am looking for a very intense course which would bring up both my verbal and mathematical ability. I did research online but found so many various GRE prep courses and don’t know which is the better one. I remember from high school that many people did not like Kaplan and Princeton but don’t know if the same applies to their GRE course. How about Test Masters, MLIC, or Power Score? If anyone has any information on any of these courses, or can suggest a course which they felt was good and helped bring their score up I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
Test Anxiety with the GRE?
I am on the verge of taking the GRE for the third time this coming December. I just took it today for the second time and I bombed it severely more so than I did the first time. I am currently applying to doctoral programs (one in which I have applied a first time and was denied due to my scores) I have been studying with the Kaplan book, but I cannot afford to take the test prep course. I study fine at home, but when I go to take the test everything blanks and the words become more difficult to read and understand. I then become frustrated. I do not know what to do. All prep courses cost entirely too much, and I greatly desire to enroll in my I/O Psychology programs of choice. Does anyone know of a program that does not heavily weigh GRE scores as this is my only week point?
GRE Exam Preparation?
I am planning on taking the GRE (general subject) exam for grad school. For anyone that has taken the test, or is planning to do so soon, what advice do you have for the most effective preparation? Any tips, links, books, etc., are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
What are your thoughts on the GRE exam?
I am 48 years old. A tired but experienced nurse. I have a BSN degree. I would like to get a master degree and begin a role as a Nurse Practitioner. I do not want to take the GRE exam. My GPA from college years was 3.16. University of Michigan requires a 3.25 if not taking the GRE.
What do you all think? I just have not been in a classroom for a very long time. I am anxious about the GRE and not doing well. (even if I prepare and take a study course) I would just like to apply to a master’s program and get started.
GRE study recommendations?
I’m looking into taking the GRE sometime this coming fall. I began looking for study aids today and discovered 15 or so different General Test guides. Are any editions more helpful than others?
GRE prep question? Help please?
I’m planning on taking the GRE. Kaplan and Princeton review and other prep courses seem to be really expensive. Are they any good? Any recommendations to prepare for the test? Is it worth paying the 00 + for the prep course? How about the online courses?
Most helpful GRE test preparation books?
I’m planning on taking the GRE in a few months. What is the most helpful book?
Does everyone get an "experimental" section on the GRE test?
I’m taking the GRE exam on May 7th, and I’m trying to understand the format of the test.
There’s the Writing section (which is always first), then a Math and Verbal section. But is there an experimental section for everyone? Or is that randomized so only a few people end up taking it?
Also, the experimental section wouldn’t be another Writing section, would it?
I can’t imagine writing two MORE essays for another two hours :/
GRE preparation – has anyone used online tutors, such as TutorVista?
Hi – I plan on taking the GRE this October and instead of the super pricey Princeton Review course I’ve been looking at test prep given help by tutors online such as TutorVista. Has anyone used them? Are they credible, did it help? What are the other best test prep methods you’ve used?
Thanks much!
