GRE (Graduate Record Exam) questions?

Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!
I’m planning on pursing my MS/PhD in psychology, however in order to apply to graduate schools I need to take the GRE Exam. Basically I have general questions about the test it self. # of questions? Good score/bad score, time allowed, when to start studing? How to study? I’m planning to take the exam in a year and half and I have been told to start early.
Which GRE prep course in NYC is the very best?
Hi, I am taking the GRE in 2 months and need very extensive preparation. I know that many of you would say that taking a course is a waste of money and that it is more beneficial to just buy the books and study myself- but that does not work for me. I am looking for a very intense course which would bring up both my verbal and mathematical ability. I did research online but found so many various GRE prep courses and don’t know which is the better one. I remember from high school that many people did not like Kaplan and Princeton but don’t know if the same applies to their GRE course. How about Test Masters, MLIC, or Power Score? If anyone has any information on any of these courses, or can suggest a course which they felt was good and helped bring their score up I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Jealous mom doesnt want son to succeed, should gf be mad?
My bf is applying to grad school, his GRE is only 3 weeks away and he has only been studying 1 week. Its sort of like the SAT, but he needs really good score to get into the highly competitive school.
We worked really hard to put his recommendation letters together and now all we need is a good GRE school.
His mom not only do not support him going to grad school, but even want to take him along on her regular roads trip..its not like its a once in a life time trip. She goes on it all the time.
I dont know why she cant let her son just take a few days to study when his exam is so near.
She wants her son to be a mommy’s boy always because she is divorced and lonely and empty nesting.
The thing with my bf is that is never has his own mind…when I am not right there to guide him…he always gives in to what his mom say because he cant say no..
what should I do?? i dont want him to not get except into grad school and have to wait 1 more year for admission..
Do I have to take the GRE and the LSAT?
I am ending out my junior year in college right now and am on track to graduate next spring. I’m a Comm Major, poli sci minor, and I’ve been thinking I’d really like to go to law school.
I’ve already signed up at LSAC, and am thinking about taking a LSAT prep course. But first, I’d like to just do a dry run of the test, see what score I get, then go from there…
My question is: If I want to go to a law school, do I need to take both the GRE and the LSAT? Is it a good idea to take the GRE anyway even if I don’t have to?
When should i take TOEFL , if am writing GRE by September second week or so?
Am planning to write GRE by September 14th, so when should i take TOEFL? My aim is to join the course that is starting on next September(Sept 2010). Currently am doing my final year in ECE and have done some research project also done some research paper work in the field of VLSI, so what is my chance in getting addmision abroad, mainly US(Top Universities) and Singapore(NANYANG TECH.)? Then, sorry to ask!! If am preparing for the next two month to write GRE and TOEFL, will this give me a good score?
So am in a confused state! , paying this much for two exams and two months to study!! Please reply as soon as possible.
Clinical Psychology Career?
I am interested in pursuing a career in clinical psychology (specifically a Psy.D) but I do not have a major background in psychology. I took a couple of courses in college for my major, but nothing extensive. To get into a doctorate program they say you either need extensive classes or a great score on the GRE Psychology Test. Are there any "Gold Standard" psychology test books to help you study for the GRE Psych. Test other than the study guides?

Just taking a poll… Princeton, Kaplan, Testmasters?
Which one of these GRE prep courses will anyone vouch for? I’m interested in how many responses I get for one or the other. I just figure that real-life testimonials are a good way for me to decide on a very costly investment. So which do you all prefer as an in-class prep course? And please nobody say just read the prep books. I’ve tried that before and got a terrible score.
Chances of getting into PhD programs…GRE scores, gpa, etc…?
I am applying to several Cognitive PhD and Sensation and Perception PhD programs. My gpa is lower than I would like: for December 15th deadlines it will be entered as a 3.32 and for deadlines after December 15th it will be a 3.48. Unfortunately, I was extremely unmotivated my first two years of school and did not do well (2.82). However, my last three semesters I have had gpas of 3.65, 3.91 and 4.0. My gpa within psychology is a 3.75 and my upper level course (3000 and 4000) level is a 3.92.
I do not have my writing score from the GRE yet, but I received a 670 on the verbal and a 740 on the math for a total of 1410.
I was just curious as to whether or not my GRE scores could compensate for my GPA. Most programs that I am applying to have a MEAN Gpa of 3.5 and a MEAN GRE of 1200. So I am below on one, higher on the other.
Also, among psychology PhD’s my scores put me in the 96th percentile for both math and verbal.
Obviously I am just nervous about my Gpa. Thanks!

I got a 480 on the verbal section of the GRE and a 660 on the quantitative. Should I re-take it?
I have heard that scores do not really change and that was my score AFTER taking a prep course. I want to apply to clinical and counseling psych doctoral programs but my verbal is rather low. Other than that, I have research and clinical experience and will have strong letters of recommendation. I don’t know how to even improve my verbal without memorizing the entire dictionary. Any suggestions or words of advice.
What are the two GRE scores shown during test?
I took the GRE and at the end of the test it gave me two numbers a 550 and 650, the 550 was the top number, I don’t remember which score is verbal and which is quatitative
A question about the GRE….was it flawed?
I took a prep course (a very well known test prep company) and I kept track of my scores on the sample CAT’s. My score did in fact increase with time, but the actual GRE that I took yesterday was about the same as the score I received on the diagnostic CAT. The diagnostic CAT was basically the first GRE CAT test I ever took without any preparation, and it was intended (by the prep-course) to determine your weaknesses/strengths. Anyway, as I mentioned my score did increase over time, but when I took the real GRE yesterday my score was about the same as the diagnostic. So basically, I wasted 3 months of studying for nothing? Basically, the exam had VERY different types of questions than what I was preparing for…….
Is it possible that something was wrong with the GRE that I took? Like a computer glitch or something?
Did any one took the general gre test?
i am willing to take the general gre test in 2 weeks ,i was working on it for one month, the problem is that my native language is not english and its like mission impossible to me,can any one here gives me an advice specialy when i need a score above 1100.

How hard is the GRE Exam?
I plan to take it in August 2009. Everyone is telling me to begin studying by February at the latest. First of all, is this true? I am Canadian so I never had to take the SAT’s or any kind of test so I’m really not good at them. And also, my vocabulary sucks and I don’t even have my time tables memorized. So what do you suggest I do in order to get a GREAT score and get into the top schools?
GRE retake advice needed.?
So I took the GRE last week after self-preparing for about a month. I got a 720 on the quantitative and a 440 on the verbal. I think I just choked on the verbal and feel that I could do a bit better; probably closer to a 500. This score is good enough for my master’s program but I really would like to go for my PhD one day and generally a total score of 1200 is desired. My question is; should I take a Kaplan classroom course or just try and do it solo with some GRE prep books etc.?
I took the practice GRE and completely BOMBED. I have a 3.8 gpa so I am not used to bombing anything. HELP!!?
I think I need the most help with the math or quantitative section. I plan on using Kaplan GRE in a Box (verbal) to improve my score and to sink in all that vocab. However, math is a different story. I learn math by doing tons of problems but most prep books only have a couple. I took algebra, geometry, and calculus awhile ago and did well but I don’t remember most of it anymore. What SPECIFICALLY is on the GRE quantitative section??? How can I practice several GRE-type problems??? Should I take a quick math course (like a 5 week one)???? HELP!!! I need a score of at LEAST 1100 and scored like 900 on my practice one. Also, would the MAT be better??
GRE Math subject test (not general test) preparation tips?
All, I am trying to come up with a study plan for the Math GRE subject exam and would like some advice, preferably from those who have already taken it or tutored test takers, on how to prepare for it. I am aiming for as high a score as possible, and I minored in math as an undergrad. I would be especially grateful if anyone could recommend specific textbooks or study guides to work with beyond the Princeton, Kaplan, REA, Rudman, et al., subject test guides.

Why can't someone improve his or her IQ TEST SCORE by retaking the test?
The IQ test is a standardized test of achievement just like the SAT or the GRE. It is possible to retake a professonally administered IQ test one year after you have taken the test. After obtaining your initial score, you have a whole year to focus on learning how to obtain a higher SCORE, which is similar to what can be done with SAT and GRE training courses designed to teach people how to get better scores. What’s wrong with doing this? If the IQ test has external validity for what it claims to measure (intelligence), then obtaining the higher score on the IQ test potentially gives you "evidence" of increased level of intelligence according to the existing scale.
*Please pay attention to the specific question I am asking. There is no need to define for me what the IQ test is or is not. All I’m asking is whether it is indeed possible to improve your score on the test by retaking it. If you answer this question please state the source by which you know your answer to be correct.
