The GRE – Graduate Record Exam…should I retake it?

Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!
I received an 5.5 on the written portion – a great score I am told. However, I received a 480 and 540 on the verbal and math portions…I was a bit out of it since I found out I was pregnant a few weeks before! Anyway, I was curious if I should retake it? Also, if I do retake it – can I just not answer any of the written portion of it and receive no score and then take the other two sections again. It is my understanding that all of your scores are reported so if I received 600 on the second test in each section and a NS – No Score on the written, the university will see that the scores from the first time I took it and and will use my 5.5 as the writing score, correct?
Please advise! I am looking at becoming a physicians assistant and need to up these scores! I would hate to jeopordize my great writing score though…

Failed year in uni: what chances I have to enter at a good US univ?
First of all I’m an European student(Computer Science – Undergraduate); I’ve always wanted to study in one of the best US Universities (like Harvard, Yale, Brown, etc) but I made a mistake
and I choose the wrong high school (in HS I had mediocre grades), and I didn’t learn so much.
The problem is that I failed my first year of university and now I have to recover some courses; the other courses have poor grades too, unfortunately… I will try to obtain good grades at those courses that I’ve failed and in next years I will try to grow my "GPA".
So, I’ve decided to learn, learn, learn… I hope is not too late. I’ve read about some Universities on websites but I want to hear from "you".
I’ve been down when I heard that I failed my first year, but I want to repair my mistake.
I want to know some opinions:
1.Do I have chances to enter at one of the best universities in US?
If yes, which you think is good: undergraduate or graduate(because I will try to apply after I would finish my university-undegr in my country); If no, why ?
2.Do you think I have chances to enter if I had a failed year ? Is that possible ? Even if I have a good GPA (in the next years?)? But what if I have a GPA of 2.5 – 3 and a good score at SAT or GRE ?
3.If you have Green Card, it will be more easily to be accepted in the univ ? What are the advantages if you have GC?
4.Is there a problem if my univ.(in my country) offer 120 credits when I finish, and I want to apply for Computer Science (undergr/grad)?
And the last question: What should I do to study in one of the best US univ?
I would like you to respond sincerely and I want complete answers(of course, if you know).
Excuse my English if I have errors.
Thank you!
PLEASE! Chemistry graduate schools should I apply to with a 2.5 GPA? Most people don't apply for the MS right?
I ruined my GPA my freshman and sophomore year so it’s only a 2.5 overall. However my GPA for my last 60 hours is a 2.988. I have decent research experience and solid recommendation letters. I am taking the GRE next month and I have been studying months so I am expecting a competitive score. Of course I already know that schools look at the whole package but of course top tier 1 schools aren’t going to be as lenient. Any suggestions of schools I should apply to? From my research it seems that most of the California State Universities (long beach, Sacramento, LA, san diego, san jose) don’t specifically have GPA and GRE requirements but I keep reading that they are extremely difficult to get into but I don’t know if that applies to graduate school. Also, I applying for the MS only and I know most people apply for phD so I should have a pretty good chance right? I am also thinking that there aren’t that many chemistry students period so that might increase my chances? Also, at these big universities typically how many spots are available?

Do I have a chance at grad school?
My gpa was 2.8 and we need a minimum 3.0 and a minimum of 1000 on the GRE. I took the GRE and did not get the score. So now, I’m going to take a prep course and try to apply to grad school the second time around. If I do well enough on the GRE, do I have a chance at acception into grad school? This is for speech-language pathology, by the way. I’m guessing it’s an either or with acception. Either you have the gpa and above the 1000 or you have an ok gpa and above the 1000. What do you think? Or should I look into a different master’s program completely? I’m under a lot of pressure to do well on this exam so I’m stressing out times 500.

GRE Exam Scoring…what does it mean?
I took the GRE recently and Recieved my results. I got a score of 400 on the writing section. However, I was told by multiple sources that the writing section is scored on a scale of 0 through 6, 6 being the highest, 0 the lowest. But It says I scored a 400 on it. What does that mean? I got a 470 on the Verbal and a 440 on the Quantative. I know that’s average tho. But did I do well on the writing section?
GRE or MAT? Is the Graduate Record Exam or the Miller Analogies Test the better one to go with?
If the graduate school accepts either?
I am a history – literature person more than a math person. I went through calculus in high school but have not taken math or used much of that sort of math since.
Do I have to relearn algebra to get a good score on the GRE?
Hey all!!! I am currently in 3rd year of my course and am studying E & Ec in Punjab Engineering College.?
I have 92% in my 12 std boards and have done projects in telecommunications like design of gurgaon metro telecommunications network for my 6 months internship but have a low GPA of 6.5. How good are my chances of getting into a good post grad university in US for a M.Sc in telecommunications considering a good GRE and TOEFL score.
Help me out here guyzz
Hesitant about applying to graduate school?
Yeah that’s right. I’m really avoiding the whole situation I guess because I’m afraid I wont get in…mainly because I’m terrible at writing standardized tests and therefore my GRE scores would probably be horrible. In fact, I took one of those 4 day prep courses recently, then took a practice tests and got an extremely LOW score. Anyway, I have a 3.7 gpa, and I can get some really good recommendation letters, but it’s the GRE crap that’s getting to me. Should I just apply to grad schools in Canada (since they don’t require the GRE)? Or should I just forget about grad school altogether? OR should I just hope that the grad schools wont care about my crappy scores?
The GRE Exam…how bad is it?
For those of you who took it can you please answer my q’s:
1) How long before taking the exam did you begin reviewing/studying?
2) How difficult would you rate the exam on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being extremely difficult.
3) What area(s) of the exam did you find the most challenging/difficult?
4) Did your score get you into a good school? Yes or No
Thanks
How are my chances of getting into grad school? (English Literature)?
I’m a senior at a small liberal arts college that is considered "very selective", and my GPA is 3.9 (4.1 in my major). I haven’t yet taken the GRE, but my practice test scores without studying were Q 650 and V 730 (I couldn’t get a score for the analytical section, of course, but it should be at least a 5. 5). I’m sure I can get very positive letters of recommendation from three or four professors in my department, as well as one in Art History.
Unfortunately, for personal reasons, I’m limited to universities within adjacent counties to the one in which I currently reside. Of these, the only ones offering either an MA or a PhD in English lit are:
An Ivy League school
An enormous university which is sometimes called a "new Ivy"
Two state universities.
I realise that I probably don’t have a chance at the Ivy, but do you think at least one of the other three will accept me?
If you get horrible scores on the practice GRE's after studying for months and months, should you just give up?
I have a little bit of a dilemma and would appreciate your honest feedback.
I’m currently in the process of taking practice tests and have realized that my avg score for Q is in the 200’s, and for the V in the 300’s. I’m not an idiot. The test is making me believe that I am though! You will probably suggest I take a test-prep course, but please note that I have already taken 2. The methods they teach do not make complete sense to me, and the methods I’ve taught myself also apparently don’t work. I’m just not good at these kinds of tests! I did fairly well during my undergrad education — my UG GPA is 3.6 (my gpa in my major is 3.9), so I was encouraged by faculty members to apply to grad school, which is what I really want to do (program in the arts/humanities/social sciences). However — these scores are horrendous. So should I just not apply to grad school and start filling out app’s at McDonald’s? HONEST serious answers ONLY please & thanks.
How do I check my GRE score online?
Well,I have a really peculiar problem. You see, after I finished my GRE exam, I didn’t quite see my score properly, the administrator sort of hurried me on and I am not quite sure what my scores on verbal and quant are!!Can somebody tell me how I can check my scores without having to wait for the hard copy to arrive?
Does GRE help in UK education?
Dear Friends,
I am going to apply for my post graduation in the UK universities. I want to earn a scholarship and for the same purpose I am writing the GRE examination . If I get a good score would it help in getting a scholarship..? Would it play a big role. I am also working in a fortune company would have (about 9 months of exp when i apply). I really want to get a scholarship. If it helps how much percentage would it help..? Or would it be better If i do some courses…? like CCNA and CCNP which is relevant to my further studies. Please give me some ideas of getting a good scholarship. I am hoping to get half of the fees as a scholarship.
Thanks.
