I would like to know what is a good score to get chemical engineering or material sciences course in a good universities. Also, which are the good universities when it comes to chemical engg. or material sciences?

Please reply fast as I have my GRE on 22nd October.

Details like when to apply 4 it? how to study 4it-any related websites or books? what do we need to concentrate on? & the adequate score that is required. Im currently doing engineering in I.T from Delhi; India & will be going to 2nd year. Also can we apply for an MS course in areas other than software engineering?

I am signed up to take a GRE prep course in March. I am in favor of the standardized test like the SAT and such but I really don’t agree with the weight that the GRE holds when applying for graduate school. Think about it. Most go to college and major in ONE thing. For me, I was a Public Relations major. I was required to take only 3 hours worth of math. Yet, I have to do an entire section of math on the GRE and it isn’t all basic math either. Plus, the vocabulary section is crap. It asks you for definitions of words that are not commonly used. Seriously, the meanings of some of those words are outdated and NOBODY uses them in the form that is being asked. If we have to take the exam, fine, but schools shouldn’t put the bulk of their decision on the score. They need to look at all factors like GPA, etc.It all needs to be balanced equally. I was good enough to get into college and graduate but the GRE is trying make us prove we are good enough to keep going? What do you guys think?

Hi, I took the Kaplan GRE prep course and am really happy with it. I was wondering though if anyone took the course recently (including the CAT exams they offer on-line) and the actual GRE. Did these CAT exams really reflect the GRE? did you score similarly? Were the antonyms more difficult than expected or less (I’m working on studying all the Kaplan vocab- around 500 words. is that enough??)
I appreciate any feedback- as you can see I’m freaking out b/c of this exam!!!!
Thanks!

I can’t afford a Kaplan course, what are some cheap/free things that I can do to help boost my score?

I am going to finish my BE (Bachelor of engineering) in June-July. When do u suggest me to write both GRE and TOEFL?
When should i apply for writing them? I can immediately join in

I took the GRE last year and prepped on my own. I didn’t do well at all on the math, but my verbal was above average for my field. Of course I’d still like it to be higher! I didn’t get into grad school so I’m giving it another try. What is the best way to improve your score, in your opinion? A GRE prep course? Just using a GRE study guide? One on one tutoring? Also, how much time did you spend studying for it? Thanks.

I have to take the GRE near the end of November. I have around 5-6 weeks to prepare (I know, not that much time!) My university had been offering free classes for prep but for some strange reason they all ended last week and they don’t seem to be offering a new session. So that plan has been shot and now I need to prepare on my own, which I hate doing. I think I would learn best from doing a CD program (I did this for the ACT and my score was amazing); one with little exercises and progress or whatever. I especially need to have good practice at this math because I tested out of all the required math hours for my major so I haven’t studied math in 4 years. I am great at math, but it is all forumula memorization/practice and I since it has been so long I really need to review this. Any suggestions, anyone know of just such a computer program? Where can they be bought- Barnes and Noble? Best Buy? etc… thanks for your help!!

I am in third year of B.E. (Computer engineering) course.
My GRE is on 30th september 2008. I will complete graduation in july 2009 after which I would like to go to US to pursue higher studies. Is my selection of date proper?
When should I give TOEFEL? Please tell me how I should plan various activities like sending applications to universities etc.
Also what may be considered as good score?

I would love top hear personal experiences with some of the more popular (and unpopular) prep courses, like Princeton Review, Kaplan or Testmasters. Also, has anyone heard of MILC? They guarantee a score of at least 1300 on the GRE. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I mean if we write GRE Math test then which colleges accept that score?

What kind did you take, and did you think it was worth it in the end? Did it help you bring up your score much if you had taken it before?
I’m also wondering if anyone has taken it online, because I’ve got a really busy schedule these days and it might work better for me if it’s just as effective that way.

I’m taking the GRE in October & every student I have talked to has told me that it made them want to die and/or consume mass quantities of alcohol. However, every professor I’ve talked to has said that it’s not that bad. So which is it? And what’s a good score?

I want to take the GRE in a month. I have a really good undergrad GPA but SUCK at test taking. The program I am applying to requires the GRE, but there is not an entrance score requirement. I’m thinking about just going and taking it on the computer and not messing with studying. (I have been out of school for 5 yrs. and have job experience.) To get accepted, they just want you to have a good undergrad GPA, 3 letters of reference, work experience, and TAKEN the GRE…what would you do?

How much did you (they) improve your score after taking it?

I took the biochemistry test October 18th, and i was just wondering how long it will be until i get my score.

but kind of rusty in my math…for the english part, I am pretty much horrible with vocabulary? any suggestions on how to study and get a good score? Thanks

when do i know whether my score is conformed or not by the university i have sent it?
sent to universities in USA

I know that there are 2 sections and each section is worth 800 points. Is it hard to achieve a 500 on each section? Is a score of 1000 average?

I am an Indian. My brother has written his GRE and scored 1060. Will it be difficult for him to get an admission in a good university with this score? Will his score affect his US visa processing in any way because i have been hearing stories off-late that a lot of the students visa is being rejected?

I am a junior right now and I plan on taking GRE next year (I hope I am not too late). People recommend to take it before it changes in september. And I also heard that we should register early because there will be many people trying to take it before it changes.

So my questions are:

1. How long does it take to prepare for it?

2. Can I register early (like now) for a test half a year in advance?

3. Do you recommend taking GRE before it changes also?

4. My weakest portion is the verbal. I heard that it’s helpful to read newspapers/megazines to learn more new words. Which one do you recommend?

5. If I want to leave enough time to retake the GRE (only if I need to), how much time should I put off before September (including receiving the score from the first test and then register and take the second one befoer September)?

Thanks a lot!

How much did you (they) improve your score after taking it?
