PostHeaderIcon Any advice or tips on how to prepare for the GREs?

Looking for info on gre preparation classes, gre preparation courses, gre test course and more?

Hi and welcome to my blog,

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!

So I’m taking the GRE exam this year. I’ve already been practicing with books (the Kaplan books seems to be more helpful than the Princeton Review in my opinion). I wanted to know if anyone out there who has already taken the exams and got a good score had any tips on how to be well prepared. Also, is the exam anything like the problems they show you in the books?? I want to make sure so I’m not wasting my time.

I’d love any kind of advice. Thank you!

PostHeaderIcon Does the GRE test prep course work?

I was looking into the Princeton Review course and it is so expensive! Was wondering if it actually improves your score. What is better a tutor or a course? Which is harder on the math GRE or GMAT?

PostHeaderIcon GRE !!!! Which book is the best to study for the GRE?

I am trying to prepare to take the GRE on December, however, I don’t know which books are the best to buy. I have looked on ebay and they list books such as:

The Princeton Review Cracking the GRE (2008) and the
Kaplan GRE Exam 2009 Premier Program by Kaplan (2008)

I don’t know which is best between those two.
If you could help me I would really appreciate it. If you think there are better sources rather than the Kaplan or the Princeton review please let me know.
Thanks again!!!!!!

PostHeaderIcon What is the best way to review for a chemistry placement exam for an M.S.?

I have been out of school for a couple of years and have decided to work on an M.S. in chemistry while working full time. This program requires that I pass a placement exam in physical chem, organic chem, biochemsitry, analytical, inorganic chemistry, and biology. I have about 4 months to prepare for the exam but it would take forever to find all my notes and read through all these textbooks.
There are Schaum’s outlines in each of these subjects. Do you think they would provide sufficient review for a placement test? I also bought the Princeton Review prep book for the Chemistry GRE.

PostHeaderIcon Major Score discrepancy between GRE and practice exams?

I took the GRE-General test recently and was shocked at my score. On my practice exams, I was consistently scoring between 620-650 on my Verbal and 630-660 for Quantitative. On the actual GRE, I scored 650 Quantitative but a 480 Verbal! Has anyone else had such a massive score discrepancy? Any thoughts?
As a side note, I studied with both the Princeton Review Book and the Kaplan Book. I also took a Kaplan course as well.

PostHeaderIcon Do GRE exams provide directions that tell you whether a particular verbal ques. ask for antonyms or synonyms?

I took a practice GRE general exam given by Princeton Review and Kaplan. Both did not provide any clue as to whether a particular question was asking for synonyms or antonyms.

PostHeaderIcon Question about GRE Exam!?

The Princeton Review book I bought says on “www.gre.org/issuetop.html”, and www.gre.org/argutop.html you can view the complete list of all possible essay topics!
I went there but couldn’t find any!
Has anyone seen these topics on the GRE website? If so, can you help me out on where which link I can locate them?
Thank you so much!

PostHeaderIcon GRE Reviews question?

If you’ve already taken the GRE and you took the Kaplan and/or Princeton Review courses, which one do you think better prepared you?

PostHeaderIcon which is better test prep for the GREs, kaplan or princeton review?

im looking to take a course to prep for the general GRE test in my spring semester. i want to take a course during my winter break. i wanted to know which test prep service is better…kaplan or princeton review?

PostHeaderIcon The BEST Psychology GRE Exam preparation, thoughts, suggestions, & experiences?

I am currently preparing to take the GRE exam. I have decided to probably go with either the Princeton Review or a similar type of course for preparation. I am the first person to pursue a graduate degree in my family, and I also had to work full time most of my college career. I had 2 very bad car accidents during college and my transcripts directly reflect the series of obstacles I faced throughout this time so I feel that it is EXTRA important that I do well on this exam to help my chances of acceptance in addition to great reference letters, statement of purpose, and additional volunteer work and research. I would appreciate any test taking tips, suggestions, and positive feedback to help me mentally prepare for this exam.

I have taken 2 preliminary practice exams the first one i didn’t do so well, the second I did ok… but I want to prepare in the best possible way. On a side note I am more of a visual learner and I do way better on essay exams, but have been working on my multiple choice test taking skills and techniques.

I definitely can use the support and feedback and would love to know about others experiences with this exam.

Best wishes & thanks for your time and help!

PostHeaderIcon Does any one else agree that ETS praxis tests are a Corporate scam?

When you take the praxis ll english: Content knowledge, you’ll realize that the test has been advertised as but includes a registration fee as well making it 5 dollars. I’m so sick of ETS, I also took the GRE using study guides from kaplan and princeton review which are misleading and uneffective. The praxis ll study guides for english are worthless because the actual test is based on reading comprehension. ETS is a scam but what can we as students and prospective teachers do about it?

PostHeaderIcon When should the GRE exam be taken? I am a college Sophomore and I got an offer for GRE practice?

from The Princeton Review and I am curious as to whether I should take the offer now or take another opportunity later on in my undergrad career (Junior/Senior year).
Thanks for the answers guys!!!

PostHeaderIcon How close are the practice GRE's to the real test?

I just took a practice GRE online and did really, really bad on it. I got a practice book from the Princeton Review and have been studying for about 2 months. My test is in a week and a half and I’m freaking out about it. The grad program I’m applying for is Speech Pathology, which requires a GRE score at all the colleges. So my question is, how close are the practice GRE’s to the real test? Will my practice score reflect the approximate score I may get on the test?

PostHeaderIcon Is 1050 a bad/low GRE score?

Is 1050 a bad/low GRE score? I took a Princeton Review prep course before I took it but got a really low score, so I took it again a year later studying on my own for 4 months beforehand. I really don’t want to take it again. I’m just really bad at taking standardized tests.
I want to apply to International Relations and Global Affairs programs.
I want to go for my Masters.

PostHeaderIcon GRE: Kaplan vs Princeton Review vs PowerScore?

For acing the GRE – what is the best PAID COURSE I should take between Kaplan, Princeton Review and PowerScore?

Please don’t write an answer telling me I don’t need a course, it’s a waste of money. I saved up and plan on taking a course and need your opinion.

AND PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE TAKEN ANY OF THESE, TELL ME HOW YOU THINK THEY DID

PostHeaderIcon GRE prep question? Help please?

I’m planning on taking the GRE. Kaplan and Princeton review and other prep courses seem to be really expensive. Are they any good? Any recommendations to prepare for the test? Is it worth paying the 00 + for the prep course? How about the online courses?

PostHeaderIcon GRE study guides…..?

Gearing up for the test, any advice on study guides? ETS, Kaplan or Princeton Review? Also, if I were to take a prep class Kaplan or Princeton Review? Comparable or one better than the other? Thanks!

PostHeaderIcon Is the Kaplan GRE practice test accurate with actual GRE test scores?

I purchased the 2008 GRE manual which includes a CD with practice tests. I scored a 700 math and 470 verbal on the Computer Adaptive Test. I was extremely surprised because I missed several of the math questions. With Princeton Review, I scored a 610 math and 490 verbal. Are these tests accurate? Do they predict how someone will perform on the actual exam? Thanks!

PostHeaderIcon GRE preparation – has anyone used online tutors, such as TutorVista?

Hi – I plan on taking the GRE this October and instead of the super pricey Princeton Review course I’ve been looking at test prep given help by tutors online such as TutorVista. Has anyone used them? Are they credible, did it help? What are the other best test prep methods you’ve used?
Thanks much!

PostHeaderIcon If I’m taking both the GRE and the MCAT, should I take a preparatory class for both, or do I need just one?

I don’t know how similar the two tests are, but I was thinking I could just sign up for a Princeton Review or a Kaplan course for the MCAT and that might also prepare me for the GRE. The courses are very expensive.

Also, if you recommend that I take a prep class for both tests, could I take them at the same time?

Do you think it is necessary to take both tests? My situation is difficult because I plan on going into the Peace Corps before I go to graduate or medical school, and I’m not sure which I want to do at this point, but I want to take the tests before I go into the Peace Corps, even if I have to take them again later.

Any help you could give me is greatly appreciated, I can’t find information about this anywhere!

PostHeaderIcon What is a good resource to study for the GRE or GMAT?

Are courses like Kaplan and Princeton review worth the cost or will the published books with sample questions adequate?

PostHeaderIcon Help with the quantitive math on the GRE?

Can anyone give me advice on the math section of the GRE? I am horrid at math, and the best score I’ve gotten out of the three times I’ve taken the GRE is a 370. I’ve tried Princeton Review (online course and book), Kaplan’s review, and many other GRE books. I don’t know what to do but I retake the exam on the 29th of Jan. Any quick tips or helpful ideas are welcome :) Thanks!

PostHeaderIcon What’s the best way to study for the gre without depriving yourself of your life?

Don’t tell me princeton review, as I discovered the hard way that its only a scam as well as the other study guides. So how can I learn all that potential vocab and learn how to master those word problems in a practical, my last scores were embarrasingly low, all that studying I did was for nothing, please help!
