PostHeaderIcon Kaplan teacher salary?

Looking for info on gre preparation classes, gre preparation courses, gre test course and more?

Hi and welcome to my blog,

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!

If anyone here teaches at Kaplan
GRE, SAT, MCAT, PCAT, DAT, LSAT.
can you please post your salary and what courses you are teaching?

I will potentially be interviewing for such a position
and would like to have some sort of idea
of what type of salary I should be asking for.
I do not want to short change myself.

PostHeaderIcon Graduating with my bachelor’s this spring – not sure where to go for school after this?

Ok, I have been to my school’s career counseling center, and talked to my 3 favorite teachers (who each then directed me to additional faculty), and I simply cannot seem to get the help i need looking at future school/careers.

In short, the career counselor wouldn’t shush about doing "what I love…", and i finally had to wear him down and make him realize that there is a bit of pragmatism involved in my future haha. I took all the career tests, and they say (and i generally agree) that I’m very analytical but also empathetic and I would be idea for careers in law and business.

A bit about me:
-23 years old
-Graduating with a Bachelor of the Arts in Psychology this year
-3.7 GPA, and I’m a good test taker (would do well in GRE/GMAT I assume, if going to Law I would need to take classes on the LSAT)
-When asked to make a list of what I want out of life (what I want my career to provide me with), the list is simply topped with: MONEY. It’s not as plainly materialistic as all that, but the life I want to live requires money. First of all, I want horses (have ridden and shown other people’s horses since I was a youngin’), and I want to be financially very stable, nice house, not have to worry about vet bills for my horses, etc.

So, I went out to talk to some facutly I know at my school and they have all thrown me in about 3 different directions each, so I’m posting here to see if anyone has some answer/solutions to my future haha.
The problem is, I either get the lecture of "do what you love" (which is BS, i can’t make money with horses – not the way I want anyway), or I get told vague ideas of what to do with minimal insight. For instance, I talk to an accounting teacher today who has his law degree, who struck it rich as an accountant in the 80s and is a real hard-a**, and he basically told me I’d be stupid to go to law school (too much money, won’t necessarily get a job when I come out), and that my strengths don’t play well to an MBA. And of course i’ve heard plenty of "you’ll be fine – you’ll do great in Business/Law school and be successful", but there is at least some truth to what this man said today…

So my question is, what experiences have you answerers had in Law or Business? I’m rather turned off of law after talking to this person today, but you never know. If going into business, my main perrogative is money, and I’m not tremendously mathematically inclined (I can pass the classes, but not excel), so I was recommended to look at the health care field.

Does anyone have a Masters in Health Care Admin? Or an MBA with an emphasis on Health Care?

thanks, sorry if I rambled, it’s a long story, but your input would be appreciated!
I should have mentioned this, sorry!, but I’m not at all interested in continuing with Psychology. The amount of school vs. money made does not appeal to me. I have considered all areas of work in the psychological field from psychiatry to social work to research, and none seem to offer what i’m looking for. thanks though :)

PostHeaderIcon If Christians are supposedly so brain dead, etc., why don't skeptics ask to compare Curriculum Vitae?

A recurring (daily!) theme on R&S is the mantra that Christians are irrational, illogical, stupid, and _________. (Supply your own taunt based on your own experiences here.) Because there is such a constant demand for EVIDENCE and DOCUMENTATION, how about everyone including a summary of their C.V. in their profile, along with academic degrees.

So why not be more empirical and post one’s basic background information? Of course, whenever I ask this, I hear backtracking that starts to nuance: "I didn’t really mean unintelligent in general. Just in relation to views of the Bible, religion, etc. etc."

I’ve made this challenge to many — immediately after they have accused me of stupidity, "brain damage", and you name it. Yet, whenever I make the challenge, the discussion seems to end at the point. If someone truly believes in their intellectual superiority, why aren’t they willing to document it (or "provide evidence" as the demand is so often made of Christians on this forum). I’d even settle for GRE, LSAT, or even an SAT set of scores.

So are such taunts of irrationality and lack of intelligence sincere?…….or simply argumentative and resorting to name-calling when all else fails?

(I’m even willing to look at the responders’ profiles to look for evidence of intellectual accomplishments. So feel free to update your profiles before posting your answer.)

"Why not pose the question to the people you claim are doing this?"

If you will send me a mailing list, that would be great. Otherwise, the only way to reach the anonymous people on YA R&S is to post to the same forum. (Think about it.)
_____

Those who have stated that intelligence, academic degrees, IQ’s, and test scores are not the issue ARE EXACTLY RIGHT. And precisely BECAUSE that should be so obvious,I’m amazed how often that insult is thrown at Christians (and sometimes theists in general)on this forum–even though when we actually discuss it out in the open, there is a consensus that intelligence per se or academic credentials per se is not the issue.

Also related to this issue is the frequent claim on this forum that anyone who believes in God or some set of religious doctrine is MENTALLY ILL. Of course, if this was true, there would be an entry and diagnosis code in DSM-IV for TFD (Theistic Fantasy Disorder) or RPD (Religious Personality Disorder). Yet, I see this one at least once per day in this forum.

However, despite the frequency of these phenomena, when someone (like me) mentions it explicitly as a frequent occurrence on this forum, nobody admits that they do it! Amazing. But somebody is doing it! :-)

It is interesting how many who answered clearly understood the tongue-in-cheek nature of the question — while others didn’t.

But my favorites are those that simply reaffirmed that Christians are brain dead and that their own logic and thinking skills are still superior to those who disagree with them. (I could hardly ask for more.)

As the credit card commercial describes it: "Priceless!"
___________

Yes, it is SO impressive when someone mentions the words "curriculum vitae".

(Once again: "Priceless!" Of course, the idea of "impressing" such an auspicious assembly of inquiring minds wanting to know is kind of cute in itself. Yes, ya really can’t make this stuff up. It keeps me coming back. It is kind of like driving past an accident on the highway. People hate to admit it, but they can’t help but look.)

Thanks. Keep ‘em coming!

PostHeaderIcon Harvard for Graduate school.?

Okay, so currently I’m a sophmore at the University of Houston. I’m double majoring (psychology (b.s.) + liberal studies major (political science, german, and anthropology- b.a.) I love languages so I’m taking russian outside of school. I’m a very well rounded student and outside of my academic life I focus on the arts (ballet, painting, etc) .I really want to shoot for Harvard but of course I won’t be terribly upset if I don’t get accepted. I understand it’s very difficult and competitive and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get in. That being said, since I am attending UH would that hurt my chances of getting into a school like Harvard? I’m a very good student and I stayed in Houston to be with my family (I wasn’t ready to leave just yet) but of course I’m wanting to get my PhD and I don’t want to live in Houston all of my life so I’m looking for schools on the east coast. My ex- step father went to Harvard and graduated with honors and that has always really inspired me.
Also, how early should I begin studying for the GRE? or LSAT? Even though I am not a pre-law student, I also want to receive a J.D. along with a PhD. I’m a life long learner and love school so I’m not in a rush to earn my degrees, I want to enjoy college and learn all I can! = )
Thanks!
One more thing- I’ve heard the GRE is mostly vocab. is this true? I started listening to WORDSMART on itunes (which is awesome I recommend it for anyone trying to boost their vocab.) so I would be prepared for the exam!

PostHeaderIcon I just don't know if I can do it. How do I cure this doubt?

My dad wants me to make sure I can clear the MCAT with flying colors. I did well on my SAT’s, but mediocre on my LSAT’s and GRE’s…..I just don’t know if I have what it takes to succeed on this exam. I’m doing well in the pre-requisite courses, but just doubt that I can nail this exam. What do you do when you’re nervous about a test?

PostHeaderIcon I'm a college grad, worked 1 yr, looking to go back to college (undergrad) in top schools?

I’m a college graduate with a 3.2 GPA, poli sci major. I started school with a very low GPA but by Junior and Senior year I did much better, but I regret a lot that I didn’t try harder. I wish to attend law school or grad school at Columbia/NYU. I think that my GPA is too low and I have very low SAT scores. I’m thinking to retake my SAT’s and re-attend college (hopefully at a top school) as an undergrad and start all over. Is this completely ridiculous? Or, just re-take my SAT’s? Of course, my LSAT/GRE exam would be a major factor as well. I really want a 2nd chance in my studies and I feel that my undergrad grades/scores will effect negatively in my future goals.

PostHeaderIcon how hard is the gre exam?

to anyone who has taken it….is it harder than the sat? the lsat? how much time to study for it?

PostHeaderIcon Can you retake the GRE with no repercussions?

I would like to take the GRE but I do not have the time to study intensively or take a course on it. I would really just like to take it and see what happens but if it is like the LSAT and they average your scores together, I would like to put more of an effort into preparing for it. What are the repercussions, if any, of getting a bad GRE score and then retaking it?

PostHeaderIcon Should you take a prep course for the police exam?

I was planning on taking the exam and then I heard a commercial talking about a prep course for the exam. I was just wondering if I should take the prep course or just study on my own. I know the police exam isn’t like the LSAT or GRE so I don’t know if a prep course is totally necessary. Any thoughts?

PostHeaderIcon gre study guide?

I was checking my college bookstore and I found a few GRE study guides. There was a general one, a Kaplan, Barrons, Princeton Review. Which of those would be of the most benefit? If there is a different one give me the name of it, and any other suggestions for studying. What about the LSAT I’m going to start studying for that as well. Thanks.

PostHeaderIcon What is the best study method for the GRE?

I took the Kaplan test for the LSAT and it didnt prove to be real helpful. I dont want to waste 00 again. Anyone know of any specific self study methods. Hope this is enough info, thanks in advance.

PostHeaderIcon Which test, the GRE or GMAT test, do students generally take to get into a Masters of Philosophy program?

I do not want to know which test is easier or less time consuming or how it relates to another test. I also do not want to know about other related tests (such as the LSAT)–or your personal experiences with a test. I only want to know which test (GRE or GMAT) is generally taken to get into a Masters of Philosophy program.

Let us know if we can add more things you want to know about gre preparation classes, gre preparation courses, gre test course
