PostHeaderIcon Major Score discrepancy between GRE and practice exams?

Looking for info on gre preparation classes, gre preparation courses, gre test course and more?

Hi and welcome to my blog,

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!

I took the GRE-General test recently and was shocked at my score. On my practice exams, I was consistently scoring between 620-650 on my Verbal and 630-660 for Quantitative. On the actual GRE, I scored 650 Quantitative but a 480 Verbal! Has anyone else had such a massive score discrepancy? Any thoughts?
As a side note, I studied with both the Princeton Review Book and the Kaplan Book. I also took a Kaplan course as well.

PostHeaderIcon PLEASE HELP…..WHAT ELSE CAN I POSSIBLY DO?!?

I registered for a Kaplan course to help study for the GRE, the class is now over and my scores have not improved, infact, they have only gotten worse. I do not believe there is any possible way to be able to answer the antonyms and and analogies without knowing what the words mean. I know all of the word roots, the top 200 vocab words used on the GRE, and also look out for the "negative/positive" charges of words, but yet my highest score on the verbal section was a 290. I am in desperate need of advice, I will be taking my exam in ten days, and right now, im feeling extremely hopeless.

PostHeaderIcon HAVING SUCH A ROUGH TIME WITH THE GRE..?

Hello all,
I am having such a hard time understanding the GRE material. I have ALWAYS been absolutely HORRIBLE in math, so I enrolled into a Kaplan course to help. Well, I am actually not benefiting from it. Every practice test I take I am getting 30, 40, 50%s. I don’t know what to do. I feel like giving up =( I’m not a negative person, but I don’t know if I can get through this stuff. Please give me some advice on how to maybe understand the math better. Thanks so much..

PostHeaderIcon Has anyone studied and taken the GRE with self-prep books and done fairy well?

I’ve taken it this past August and haven’t done so well, I got an 800 from both verbal and quantitative. I felt very disappointed because in my practice tests, I did in the thousands (1200, 1175… ). I was going to take it again in December for Xmas break but I took 20 units for my fall semester, August to December, so I haven’t studied for my GRE at all.

Now I’m debating whether to take a kaplan course or something to help me do better for my retake but I really don’t have the money.

I just wanted to know if there was anyone out there that tried studying for the GRE with self-prep books and did pretty good (especially the second time around)???

PostHeaderIcon how long did it take you to study for the GRE and how did you do it???

I’ve been studying the word lists for months and when I review them I hardly remember any of them!!! Any ides?
Also, did you take the Kaplan course? was it helpful?

PostHeaderIcon If I’m taking both the GRE and the MCAT, should I take a preparatory class for both, or do I need just one?

I don’t know how similar the two tests are, but I was thinking I could just sign up for a Princeton Review or a Kaplan course for the MCAT and that might also prepare me for the GRE. The courses are very expensive.

Also, if you recommend that I take a prep class for both tests, could I take them at the same time?

Do you think it is necessary to take both tests? My situation is difficult because I plan on going into the Peace Corps before I go to graduate or medical school, and I’m not sure which I want to do at this point, but I want to take the tests before I go into the Peace Corps, even if I have to take them again later.

Any help you could give me is greatly appreciated, I can’t find information about this anywhere!
