PostHeaderIcon What can I do, crazy professor?

I am finishing up grad school, I have maintained a 4.0 throughout. I have a professor who commented that I would not make an A in his class no matter how I performed. I want to get into a Phd. program and really need a 4.0 because my GRE was not outstanding. True to form on the multiple choice questions I got 20 of 20 correct, but on the subjective discussion questions he killed me. I checked my answers against the text book and I was totally right. What can I do, this guy hates me and has told me so in face to face consultations. He said I am not fit to graduate because I dont have "it". He said I am too book smart and dont have the people skills required. I totally disagree of course and every client I have ever had has been satisfied. What can I do? Keep in mind that this loser is totally unethical, he married one of his students who was 40 years younger. Everyone at the school fears him because he is big and verbally abusive. I stood up to him once in an earlier class and I think he has never gotten over it.

PostHeaderIcon 8 years of tech experience, now want to complete bachelors.. need help?

I completed a 2 years bachelor program in business administration with the exception of 1 course (not completed due to lack of time and necessity to work full time). I have transcripts but no degree. This was back in 2001 and since then I have been working. 4 years in a reputable US organization and eventually in a successful startup to date.

I now want to consider taking up education again, complete my bachelors from a reputable US university and perhaps do a masters.

My issues are:
I can’t afford tution.
I gave toefel eon years ago with a good score but have never given gre or SAT.
I want to know if universities consider work experience of an applicant cos I have years of it.
Need a starting point, any guidance will help. Thanks

PostHeaderIcon What are the eligibility criteria for Technical University of Munich?

I have enrolled in the undergraduate Chemical Engineering course in a reputed college in India. I wish to do my masters from Technical University of Munich. I don’t know German, but there are still four years ahead of me before I apply.
So, is it compulsory to know German and is there a qualifying examination to prove the language proficiency? Apart from GRE, do I have to pass IELTS or TOEFL? If yes, then which is better?

PostHeaderIcon Is it irresponsible to take the GMAT with somewhat limited preparation?

I read GMAT books and did practice questions sporadically over the past 15 months. I entered a GMAT class and learned more quantitative skills. I took the GRE and aced both verbal and math sections.

However, I’m taking the GMAT today on something of a lark, because I’m in the midst of a practice course which is becoming truly useless, because I feel totally saturated with knowledge, and because I just want to get the damn thing over with.

My girlfriend gave me hell, but I think I’m ready, and que sera sera.

What do other people think?

PostHeaderIcon Getting into Econ Grad School?

I am currently ending my junior year of obtaining a b.s. in econ and an additional major in Statistics from a Big Ten school. I was wondering what my chances are, with the grades i currently have in my math, statistics, and econ classes, of getting into a top 25 or even top 15 grad school.

intro to micro…4.0
intro to macro…4.0
intermediate micro…3.5
intermediate macro…4.0
econometrics I…4.0
international econ…4.0

calc I…3.0
calc II…3.5
calc III…4.0
linear algebra…3.5
real analysis I…3.5

Stats I (400 lvl non calc based)…3.5
Stats II (400 lvl non calc based)…4.0
Stats & Prob I (400 lvl; calc III prereq)…3.5
Stats & Prob II (400 lvl; calc III prereq)…3.5

I still have to take my GRE, and theory of mathematical interest, actuarial models, advanced econometrics, and ill probably take real analysis II as well. The only thing I have a concern about is first semester of my freshman year I slacked bad and was on a path to 2.0 calc I, so i dropped it and got a failing grade for it, then retook it. Its on my transcript, but I feel like i proved myself with averaging a 3.5+ in the rest of my math classes. So with it being such an introductory course 2 years ago will it affect me that much? And will the grades i have obtained help me to get into a top 25 grad school?

PostHeaderIcon what are the easiest ways to read GRE?

I am treying to memorize words of Barron for 2 month but it is too uch boring and also i forget so quickly. It would be helpful if anyone tell me the easy way of catching GRE.I want to sit for exam on march

PostHeaderIcon "Easiest" Physical Therapy Grad School?

Not that physical therapy is easy, but I would like to know which grad schools (I’m gonna try and major in physiology at a UC and then join a PT grad program either in California or the East Coast) which are accredited of course by APTA would be easiest to GET in to. Ideally, I would like to get into U of Pittsburgh grad school (#2 in the nation) though I have little confidence in getting a 1500 plus on the GRE. (please don’t motivate me, I am trying an assumption and also trying to be realistic at the moment)

PostHeaderIcon How competitive would I be for Coast Guard OCS?

I am planning on speaking to a recruiter. But of course, but before I do I just would like to get some feedback on how competitive I would be for OCS so I won’t get laughed out of the recruiter’s office. I am currently getting my masters in public administration and want to serve my country. Here are some of my stats and any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Undergrad GPA- 3.8
*worked full time during most of my undergrad career
Degree- Political Science
Act- 27
Gre-1160
1 year of volunteer work with the Red Cross

Also, any pointers on how to make myself more competitive would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the quick responses! Yeah my criminal record is clean except for a few speeding tickets.

In terms of leadership my job my last year of college was as a shift manager at blockbuster and prior to that I had worked at a law firm. I also was president of my college’s Model Arab League debate team for a year. With the red cross I have not really had the time to take on too much responsibility but I am sure that if it would help I could put in more hours and try to get more responsibility.

PostHeaderIcon I lost my GRE confirmation email, how can I retrieve it?

So I registered for the GRE, got the confirmation email. And now a couple weeks later, I realized I deleted the email.

I remember the date and location of my test, but do not remember the time of the exam.

I can’t print out a second ticket unless I enter in the registration number that was PART of the confirmation email.

I am in a state of panic now. Please help me someone. Thank you.

PostHeaderIcon Masters in Canada/Us?

Can anyone help me in giving information regarding MS-abroad ? I am a biotechnology graduate from India.I finished B.tech Biotechnology (4year course) with 7.4/10 (CGPA) this year. I am planning to do masters abroad, especially in canada / US . I had 4 backlogs in my second year of study due to non-specific reasons and I successfully completed all of them by the end of fourth year.

My doubts are :

1) Am I eligible for doing masters biotechnology degree in good universities of canada/US with funding if I get good GRE-TOEFL scores?

2) Am I eligible for doing Phd abroad with funding?

3) Do backlogs in academics become big issues during admission procedure?

4) Could u tell me the future of biotechnologists in canada/US ?

PostHeaderIcon I've got 2 nd a half months. Would i get a good score if i take the GRE exam this sept or oct ?

I’m doin my UG final year. I’m gona start preparing for GRE, which i’m gona take this oct or sept, only now. I jus wanna know if i could get a good score. I also wanna know if the US universities are providing the fellowship. Plz tell me wat’s the procedure to take TOEFL. Suggest me a good website to know abt the US universities, their details, requirements, etc. The most important thing is…. "will i make it by this sept or oct?"

PostHeaderIcon Is it abnormal that I feel like everything is so difficult?

I feel like I can’t function in everyday activities, like work & school. I already have my Bachelor’s degree, but I had a low GPA, due to my disability. It feels like everything is hard to me. Is this a mental blockage or what? I would like to go to Grad School & get my Master’s degree & get a PhD, but looking @ my school’s course descriptions, I freak out. I feel dumb. I think I’d be wasting my time if I continue with school because I don’t think I’ll make it to Grad School since I don’t do well on research papers & I feel like the GRE is too difficult. It seems like I can’t function normally like other people, & as far as employment goes, I can’t keep a job because people say I work too slow. If I were to rush, anxiety would kick in & I’d have a panic attack or accidentally mess up or break something. I’m getting disability benefits, but I don’t want to make such small income for the rest of my life. I want to know how I can make myself more functional.

PostHeaderIcon Studying Abroad in Korea: Weighing Pros and Cons??? Help!?

I plan on doing a year long (2011-2012) study at Korea University in Seoul, S.K through an ISEP program for my senior year of college. My focus of study is in "Environmental Economic Policy", basically a conglomerate of statistics, business, and environmental sciences. At this point, I have done my application, most of my course approvals, considering scholarships, and just waiting for the acceptance results. Basically my parents are saying that my degree would be useless if I end up graduating over there since the 30 some credits would not be factored into my GPA. I will still be getting my degree from my home university though.

Pros:::
- Lots of networking
- Possibly graduating on time
- Gaining an alternative view of their methods in my field
- Expanding my horizons

Cons:::
- Unsupported by parents (will need at least half of costs covered through scholarships/financial aid)
- Language barrier (learning Korean right now)
- Possibly extending my graduation time
- Missing GRE’s
- Unable to look for jobs in the US

I have been to Korea before this past winter break and loved it so much I decided I wanted to go back this time for an academic experience, etc. Basically, I’d like some feedback from you guys to weigh my options for my final decision.

PostHeaderIcon Freshmen vs. Seniors !?

FRESHMEN are never in bed past noon.
SENIORS are never out of bed before noon.

FRESHMEN read the syllabus to find out what classes they can cut.
SENIORS read the syllabus to find out what classes they need to attend.

FRESHMEN bring a can of soda into a lecture hall.
SENIORS bring a jumbo hoagie and six-pack of Mtn. Dew into recitation class.

FRESHMEN call the professor "Professor."

FRESHMEN would walk ten miles to get to class.
SENIORS drive to class if it’s further than three blocks away.

FRESHMEN memorize the course material to get a good grade.
SENIORS memorize the professor’s habits to get a good grade.

FRESHMEN know a book-full of useless trivia about the university.
SENIORS know where the next class is. Maybe…

FRESHMEN show up at a morning exam clean, perky, and fed.
SENIORS show up at a morning exam in sweats with a cap on and box of pop tarts in hand.

FRESHMEN have to ask where the computer labs are.
SENIORS have their ‘own’ personal workstation.

FRESHMEN worry about the last freshman composition essay.
SENIORS worry about the last GRE essay.

FRESHMEN line up for an hour to buy his textbooks in the first week.
SENIORS start to think about buying textbooks in October. Maybe…

PostHeaderIcon Applying to grad school..help with some ??…?

Hello,
I need a mentor! I am so completely lost. I’m graduating from college and I have no idea what the next step is- but I definitely want to attend grad school.

However, i don’t know where to start
I’ve made an appointment to see a counselor in a few weeks- but i’ve seen them before and they are of no help. But i wanted to hear your advice on applying to grad school…I’ve read several books on the topic but below are some of the questions i have

1. the GRE…when do they offer it , and when should i take it if i want to get my masters… ASAP..( i believe i might be too late to even apply for next fall)- How long should i prepare?

2. letters of rec.- i dont have any professors i can ask..I am extremely shy and hardly speak up and i just moved one semester ago to this new college I’ll be graduating from BIG PROBLEM,..i dont know what to do..

3. do you really need like a 4.0 to get into a program…i know colleges say 3.0 is the cutoff but realistically speaking do they really accept people with 3.0!??? lwhere would you say is the real cutoff – 3.2, 3.3 ..do you know of anyone being accepted with below a 3.5 gpa?

4. I want to go into an MFT program- so i need field work experience. Should i do that independently or should i take a course that offers an internship? Will colleges look at it better if i took the internship as a class course?

5. can i get a letter of rec from where i intern?

Those are just a few questions i have… if you can help me with any of them- i would really appreciate it.

PostHeaderIcon Graduate school jitters …?

Now, I’m not aiming to be a pompous braggart here but I need some advice.

I’m applying to M.A Literature porgrams this September. My ideal school is Indiana University or Northwestern. I have a 3.9 GPA overall and a 4.0 for my major. I am a memeber of the National Philosophy Honors Society and president of the National Honors English Society Sigma Tau Delta. I am also the member of a few academic groups that are linked through bi-annual publications, ect. Also, I have been selected for the top Honors group at my college. This summer i was also selected for an intern position at a very respectable academic journal. I have completed two indepedant studies under the direction of professors who specialize in that field. Although I have not taken the GRE yet, I assume that I’ll do fairly well.

I know, of course, that one’s personal statement and letters of recommendation are crucial for a successful application. What are the odds? I’m just nervous and looking for advice!

Thank you!

PostHeaderIcon Can I still get into graduate school with low GRE scores?

Ultimately, I want to go to graduate school for occupational therapy, but…

I’m freaking out about the GRE. I’m taking it in 2 weeks, and I’ve studied a lot, but it’s been really difficult to retain a lot of the knowledge because I’ve had to deal with 6 classes in Spring 2011, a summer stats class, and an internship 25-35 hours per week. I’ve taken practice tests, and based on those results, I don’t think I’ll do well on the GRE. I will take the GRE again in August or September, but I can’t postpone this test as I’ve already done so several times due to scheduling conflicts/not having enough time to study.

Here are my stats:
– I transferred to Temple University from UMass in Spring 2010 as a second semester sophomore; I have a 3.9ish GPA (it was a 4.0, but I received an A- in my stats class. I do not know the exact GPA calculation as of yet).
– I volunteer at a children’s hospital once a week for at least four hours as part of my major; I have upwards of 100 volunteer hours in therapeutic recreation, as well as 20+ hours (with more to come in the next few weeks) of OT observation.
– I’m a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Golden Key International Honour Society, and I’ve been on Temple’s Dean’s list since I transferred in Spring 2010.
– I know I will have excellent recommendation letters (2 from professors, 1 from an orthopedic surgeon that has treated me for 18 years).
– Writing is one of my strengths, so I plan on having an above-average personal statement.

Here’s the thing: because of the way my transfer credits worked out and my current academic plan at Temple University, I was unable to take physics. As such, this has eliminated a great deal of schools I can apply to. Additionally, as a result of the transfer, I am a semester behind in course work; a senior internship is required for graduation from my major, so I will not be graduating until August 2012. Most programs begin in June or July.

The four schools I am able to apply to are Boston University, Tufts University, New York University, and Columbia University. I would prefer BU or Tufts because I am from Massachusetts, but I know any of these schools are long shots because they are all in the top 10 OT rankings.

However, given my other stats, is it still possible to get into any of these schools even if I don’t do well on the GRE’s?

PostHeaderIcon what are the steps should be followed if someone is going to appear for GRE for first time?
