I want to go to grad school for music education, and need to do this all quick to be in time for the fall. I want to sign up for the GRE, take it 5 days from now, and pass it without ever studying… but can’t afford the time to fail and try again.
Last I checked, I was smart. I was a National Honors Society student in high school, and aced every math course since 1st grade. I graduated HS nine years ago, and have since earned a music degree and teach and perform music. I have not exercised any advanced math or linguistic skills. My music school does not care about my GRE score. It just has to be passing according to the university as a whole.
Do you think I can pass the GRE? What can I do that’s simple and quick to pass it if you don’t think I’m ready?
Please only respond if you have taken this test before.
Yes, according to ets I can register and take the test as early as 5 days from now.
I have completed BE Computer from Pune University aggregate 65% GPA 3.34 and want to pursue MS Computer Science at good university in US. I will appear for GRE on 17th Sep and I have already taken Toefl IBT. Toefl score is reading 27, listening 28, speaking 19, writing 29, Total 103.
Will low score in speaking hamper my chance of MS. Should I retake toefl.. And please guide me regarding GRE score requirements.. And will good GRE score compensate for loe speaking score in toefl.
Applying to graduate school in a social sciences-related degree and one of the components of the application are GRE scores.
I am an international student so I did not need to take the SAT’s when I went to college and so the whole idea of "standarized testing" is brand new to me. This GRE is killing me. I spent over a thousand dollars on a prep course and I still have a low score on the practice tests.
My overall GPA is 3.6 and I have strong letters of recommendation and a personal statement that both facutly members called "outstanding". I also at the undergraduate level presented at a national conference. Do you think a GRE score that is low will hurt?
My average scores on practice tests are:
AW: no idea
V: 350
Q: 250
my toefl score is 72 and gre score is 950 and my gpa is 3.0 can anyone guide universities in usa offering masters in computer science
I just took a practice GRE online and did really, really bad on it. I got a practice book from the Princeton Review and have been studying for about 2 months. My test is in a week and a half and I’m freaking out about it. The grad program I’m applying for is Speech Pathology, which requires a GRE score at all the colleges. So my question is, how close are the practice GRE’s to the real test? Will my practice score reflect the approximate score I may get on the test?
Just decided to go to graduate school,. but if I want to apply I have to take GRE’s in September. Not a smart move, because I have only one month to study. Do you think I can do it or should I wait for a year and take a course.
P. S. I did not do too well on SAT, because English is my third language. However in three years I am pretty sure it improved and I am a walking proof that tests like SAT are b.s. With low SAT scores I am a top student at my university. Should I go for low GRE score and hope that Graduate schools select me because of my good grades, or GRE is a very important factor?
I’ve never been that great at math, so I’ve got a lot of ground to cover. A poor math GRE score kept me from getting into programs in the past, so I’ve got to aim for a high score (preferably 700 or above). Any tips in terms of materials or study techniques? Thanks!
I am preparing to take the GRE and am aware that the math level on the test goes up to algebra II. I have taken many upper level math classes in college but it has been quite some time since I have had a math class so I wanted to take a "refresher" course in order to improve my GRE score. Should I take a college algebra class, trig or introductory calc course? I know there is not any calc on the test but I figure it might force me to review all prior math concepts from lower levels.
Is 1050 a bad/low GRE score? I took a Princeton Review prep course before I took it but got a really low score, so I took it again a year later studying on my own for 4 months beforehand. I really don’t want to take it again. I’m just really bad at taking standardized tests.
I want to apply to International Relations and Global Affairs programs.
I want to go for my Masters.
Give the student a couple research topics to choose from, a computer with word process(full function), a dictionary, an APA(or whatever the format) guide, full access to an academic search engine, and 5 hours. Let the student write a 5 page research paper (with source and everything).
would anyone think this could be more effective than GRE in predicting the test-taker’s chance of success in graduate school?
also explain.
hehe, I know… GRE does a terrible job predicting success in grad school…
I mean, all it is testing is vocabularies which you will never use in real life…
the method I was talking about is not as easy as it sounds.
the test taker needs to be pretty damn good at researching to score high on it.
and besides, GRE is not effective at all. I believe for some programs, such as geology and psychology, studies show the correlation between the GRE score and level of success in grad school to be negative (non-significant though).
K, I was comparing it to the GRE…
besides, I just came up with the idea like 10 minutes before I posted the question.
besides, for most programs, to be able to do research is THE most important skill for students. And this method focuses on the test-taker’s research abilities.
a five page research should not be that hard to complete in 5 hours.
Oh, K, another thing I need to make clear is, I was asking "whether it would be more effective THAN GRE in PREDICTING the test-taker’s chance of success in grad school."
I was not saying to replace GRE with it…
for god’s sake, I was not trying to come up with a standardized test for graduate admission.
i would lie to pursue in biotech field and i know a good gre score is vital.. i wud like to apply for the semesters beginning by august -september…so when would be the deadline to take the gre test for the falls and also the duration needed for processing the applications after the test… what else wud the colleges look for..like a good percentage in our previous tenure in studies.. and how much? also i hav heard about reccomendations… cos i sadly have none… bcos i am currrently in usa in an h2 visa and there is no chance of me goin in the near future to my country to get a reccomendation letter.. is it necessary? what are the other criterias they look for…pls help!!!!!

I would like to take the GRE but I do not have the time to study intensively or take a course on it. I would really just like to take it and see what happens but if it is like the LSAT and they average your scores together, I would like to put more of an effort into preparing for it. What are the repercussions, if any, of getting a bad GRE score and then retaking it?
my toefl score is 72 and gre score is 950 and my gpa is 3.0 can any one guide universities in usa offering masters in computer science and also universities providing scholarships for my requirements
The GRE (The Graduate Record Examinations) test is a based computer test that consists of different question types, verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing, and different degree of difficulty. In the math section, for instance, many problems are designed to see if you can apply some little short cut to get to the answer.
Today more and more students want to attend graduate schools not in their native country but all over the globe. In order to get accepted taking the GRE test is mandatory. Obviously the higher your score is the better chances you have to get accepted to the institution you want. It is important to know that there are many MBA programs now that accept GRE scores instead of GMAT.
It is hard to determine how long to study for GRE since it is of course very individual. Some take the course and for a short period of time focus only on the test while others don’t have a lot of hours a day to devote for studying so they have to learn for a longer period and of course some may find this test easy some may find it hard. However, I would say that roughly two month are enough to go thoroughly over the different subjects. If you have less time than that then focus on the essentials, buy cards that consist of the relevant vocabulary, solve the most difficult logic problems and see if you can handle that. (You can buy books that will have representative problem,e.g. the monthly logic puzzle books in order to figure out th logic problems which some find hard to grasp and so on.) But ideally it would be around to or three month to get ready for the GRE.
I wanted to know which universities i could apply to. I have a GRE score of 1120 and a GPA of 3.5..
