GRE low Verbal Score?

Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!
I recently took the GRE exam and scored low on the verbal section (490) and i received 800 on the quantitative. I have a 4.0 GPA and some teaching and research assistantship experience as an undergrad student. what are my chances of getting into top 10 engineering grad schools ?
"Easiest" Physical Therapy Grad School?
Not that physical therapy is easy, but I would like to know which grad schools (I’m gonna try and major in physiology at a UC and then join a PT grad program either in California or the East Coast) which are accredited of course by APTA would be easiest to GET in to. Ideally, I would like to get into U of Pittsburgh grad school (#2 in the nation) though I have little confidence in getting a 1500 plus on the GRE. (please don’t motivate me, I am trying an assumption and also trying to be realistic at the moment)
When applying to a graduate school in Psychology do BA and BS degrees have the same standing?
Do grad schools prefer a BS over a BA due to the emphasis on science in a BS degree or are they looked at as the same? I am currently going for a BS in psych but am looking at transferring to another university that only offers a BA. I want to make sure that I am not hurting my chances of being accepted to a graduate school. Of course this is assuming that all things are equal when getting the 2 degrees….ie GPA, scholastic record, letters of recommendation, and GRE scores…Thanks for your help.
GPA for Political Science PhD Programs?
Hello all,
I am interested in getting a Ph.D in political science, and I have been reading a lot of threads online about how graduate schools are interested in more than just GPA, GRE scores, etc. I am currently a freshman at the University of Scranton – it seems odd that I would be looking into Ph.D. programs at this very early stage, but the intensely competitive nature of vying for a Ph.D slot depicted from these forums and threads have piqued my interest a little early.
My first question concerns MA programs. My school does not currently offer an MA program in political science, and I am applying to grad school for an MA/PhD program. Forums and threads seem to indicate that applicants with an MA already have an edge in the process. Is this rumor found to be more accurate than not?
In addition, I currently have a 4.0 GPA. I realize, of course, I’m a freshman, and that GPA is bound to decrease (although it’s certainly not my intention). I have been invited to join an Honors Program. However, my school lacks many publishing opportunities. This program offers me the ability to write a thesis, but there is no public outlet to publish this at my school. This being considered, will grad schools take my school’s lack of publishing opportunities against me in the admissions process?
Finally, should I adopt a mentality to preserve my GPA at all costs – including taking more challenging and diverse courses? Which is more important – a rigorous academic curriculum or a pristine GPA?
If anyone out there can offer any insights, I would greatly appreciate the help.
Many, many thanks!
How long does it take to get GRE results out?
I’m planning on applying to grad schools, but the application deadline for some are October 1st. However, I want to take my GRE General exam (haven’t scheduled it yet) at the end of August. I want to know how long it takes for GRE scores to get sent to the applied university, so maybe I can even take it on September 1st, and they’ll send the results before October 1st. Just wanted to get some info. on how long it takes, thanks.
Hesitant about applying to graduate school?
Yeah that’s right. I’m really avoiding the whole situation I guess because I’m afraid I wont get in…mainly because I’m terrible at writing standardized tests and therefore my GRE scores would probably be horrible. In fact, I took one of those 4 day prep courses recently, then took a practice tests and got an extremely LOW score. Anyway, I have a 3.7 gpa, and I can get some really good recommendation letters, but it’s the GRE crap that’s getting to me. Should I just apply to grad schools in Canada (since they don’t require the GRE)? Or should I just forget about grad school altogether? OR should I just hope that the grad schools wont care about my crappy scores?
Is the PowerPrep GRE practice exam accurate in predicting actual scores?
Does an 800 in Quantitative on the PowerPrep GRE mean that I can expect an 800 or close in the actual exam? I have also used Barron’s and Peterson’s and got scores ranging from 720 to 800 (when timed). Also I’m applying to some pretty competitive grad schools in the US for an MS in Mechanical Engineering and my 65% (2i) UK Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering translates to a 3.5 GPA (with a few skeleton’s- C’s and D’s). So would a high GRE quantitative score offset the modest GPA (to me its a good GPA but apparently its average for the all knowing MS engineering students on the online forums)?
When should I take the GRE exam for Grad school? Junior year or beginning of Senior year?
I am currently a junior in college. I am just a little confused on when I should take the GRE exam.
There is one this April, but also in October and November.
I’m not sure if I have to take the test in April or is it ok if I wait until October and/or November to take the exam and not be too late to send scores to potential grad schools
thanks!
GRE exam..how many years can you keep the score to send to school?
I took it 4 years ago and now i’m applying to grad schools. do you think they’ll accept these scores or should i retake the exam
Grad School Questions.?
I’m currently a junior in college researching grad schools. I’m really unfamiliar with the process and have a few questions:
1. How many credits does a grad student generally take per semester?
2. I am looking into ways for paying for grad school. It seems like many people apply for assistantships. What are my chances of getting an assistantship?
3. Does a 50% assistantship mean working 20 hours, 25% assistantship mean working 10 hours, etc.?
4. The program I am interested in applying to at a school I want does not require the GRE. Will not having a GRE score hurt my chances of getting an assistantship?
THANK YOU!!
A little background:
I will graduate next spring with a Mathematics along with a Secondary Math Education major. I have a 3.85 GPA. I currently do research for a professor, coach middle school cross country, work at a middle school summer school program over the summer, am a tour guide, and I tutor.
I currently go to a state school. I’m not sure if that makes a difference or not.
Right after I finish the computerized GRE exam, will my scores automatically appear on the screen?
…i know that it will take about a week for my scores to be officially sent to grad schools……
Does anyone know of any colleges that don't require the GRE exam for graduate school.?
I am looking for grad schools that don’t require the GRE exam.
How long did u study for the GRE? Was the real exam hard?
What were the minimum GRE scores that the grad schools u wanted to apply required?
How should I study for the GRE?
Info about me: I have my BA in English with a creative writing concentration and am applying to grad schools hoping to get into a creative writing program. I got a 29 on the ACT and had a cumulative GPA of 3.6 in college.
What’s the best way to study for the GRE? I’m not good at math and I’m not sure what else is on it. Is there a particular book or program that you think is better than another? What helped you prepare?
Thanks so much!
GRE score?
my friend just got finished taking the GRE. She needs a minimum of 1100 to get into most grad schools that she is applying for. She took the computer based test and got a score of 1090. However, she did a writing portion also. We were wondering if the writing gets added on top of the score or if it subtracts. I looked at the ETS website but it didnt really explain. the writing is only worth 6 points?
