Is a GRE score of 950 (verbal/quant) to low to get into Physicians Assistance school?

Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!
I am applying to Physicians Assistance school and just took my GRE with a combined score of 950 on the verbal/quantitative section. I know I am not a good standardized test taker. My undergrad GPA was 3.7, and my references and position statement are strong. Is this test score competitve? Should I try to take the exam again?
How hard is it to get into graduate school with low GPA for Chemistry to pursue a MS degree only?
Unfortunately, I ruined my GPA my first two years and I go to a extremely difficulty school so I have a GPA of over 2.5 and 2.9 for the last 60 hours. I have solid GRE scores and solid recommendation letters so how difficult will it be to get accepted into a MS program only. Of course, I know most schools say you need a 3.0 but then a lot of them always say students can be admitted provisionally. I am really getting stressed out about this because I know I am more then capable of surviving in graduate school. My plan was to apply to 12 schools, 8 of them will be non ranked schools with low admissions standards (Only 2.75 GPA required) and four decently ranked large universities that should have enough spots available for a provisional student. Is this a good idea? and I am relying on the fact that I think most people don’t apply to the MS so that should increase my chances. Also, I keep reading online that many people get accepted into decent programs with a low GPA and maybe its because of other factors that I am not aware of. Any suggestions?
How important are GRE scores in regards to Graduate school acceptance?
Im taking the GRE in a few days and my score has been decent and suddenly I got nervous during two practice exams and did very poorly. I have studied for the past few months and feel like Im still not doing well. Im applying to school for Fall 2007 and am doing everything last minute.
I am applying for an MPH program and I am strong in aspects of really good letter of recs, a 3.8 GPA , and a lot of work and volunteer experience. What type of role does the GRE play in regards to acceptance , and If I don’t do well or If I dont do excellent am I doomed…..not in life , but for Grad school?
Any advise would be appreciated , I am very stressed and just need some pre-exam confidence I guess.
I'm a computer engineer and want to do Master of Science in USA. I don't know where to start.?
I completed Bachelor of Bomputer Engineering, and now want to continue the engineering to master level. I’m a good programmer, especially c# and asp.NET. My first question is I’m not sure which course is more related to programming and computer stuffs. My choices are Master of Science in IT (security/database/system) or Master of Science in Software Engineering. I would appreciate suggestions with more choices. My gpa is not that awesome. 2.73 and i’m taking the GRE test on january 26th. How do I contact some good universities? Do I write mail to them or some professors belonging there.. I have loads of confusions, the basic is I don’t know where and how to start.
oh that’s Bachelor of *Computer Engineer i mean, my bad :$
very well written portray of life in usa. i’m not an indian though. i’m a good student, grades dont suggest but i am. and i would like to know if there’s any way i can impress a good university and they can admit me. I’ve been programming since 6 years or so now. For experience, I made 000+ from advertising (google adsense), i have a sound musical knowledge. i play guitar, classical/gypsy and electric. being a science student i have marketing skills as well (i’ve sold inverters in a big scale). will these things impress the university? and i’m expecting a 1300+ GRE score. I just want a masters degree from a decent if not the best university.
Studying Abroad in Korea: Weighing Pros and Cons??? Help!?
I plan on doing a year long (2011-2012) study at Korea University in Seoul, S.K through an ISEP program for my senior year of college. My focus of study is in "Environmental Economic Policy", basically a conglomerate of statistics, business, and environmental sciences. At this point, I have done my application, most of my course approvals, considering scholarships, and just waiting for the acceptance results. Basically my parents are saying that my degree would be useless if I end up graduating over there since the 30 some credits would not be factored into my GPA. I will still be getting my degree from my home university though.
Pros:::
- Lots of networking
- Possibly graduating on time
- Gaining an alternative view of their methods in my field
- Expanding my horizons
Cons:::
- Unsupported by parents (will need at least half of costs covered through scholarships/financial aid)
- Language barrier (learning Korean right now)
- Possibly extending my graduation time
- Missing GRE’s
- Unable to look for jobs in the US
I have been to Korea before this past winter break and loved it so much I decided I wanted to go back this time for an academic experience, etc. Basically, I’d like some feedback from you guys to weigh my options for my final decision.
Graduating with my bachelor’s this spring – not sure where to go for school after this?
Ok, I have been to my school’s career counseling center, and talked to my 3 favorite teachers (who each then directed me to additional faculty), and I simply cannot seem to get the help i need looking at future school/careers.
In short, the career counselor wouldn’t shush about doing "what I love…", and i finally had to wear him down and make him realize that there is a bit of pragmatism involved in my future haha. I took all the career tests, and they say (and i generally agree) that I’m very analytical but also empathetic and I would be idea for careers in law and business.
A bit about me:
-23 years old
-Graduating with a Bachelor of the Arts in Psychology this year
-3.7 GPA, and I’m a good test taker (would do well in GRE/GMAT I assume, if going to Law I would need to take classes on the LSAT)
-When asked to make a list of what I want out of life (what I want my career to provide me with), the list is simply topped with: MONEY. It’s not as plainly materialistic as all that, but the life I want to live requires money. First of all, I want horses (have ridden and shown other people’s horses since I was a youngin’), and I want to be financially very stable, nice house, not have to worry about vet bills for my horses, etc.
So, I went out to talk to some facutly I know at my school and they have all thrown me in about 3 different directions each, so I’m posting here to see if anyone has some answer/solutions to my future haha.
The problem is, I either get the lecture of "do what you love" (which is BS, i can’t make money with horses – not the way I want anyway), or I get told vague ideas of what to do with minimal insight. For instance, I talk to an accounting teacher today who has his law degree, who struck it rich as an accountant in the 80s and is a real hard-a**, and he basically told me I’d be stupid to go to law school (too much money, won’t necessarily get a job when I come out), and that my strengths don’t play well to an MBA. And of course i’ve heard plenty of "you’ll be fine – you’ll do great in Business/Law school and be successful", but there is at least some truth to what this man said today…
So my question is, what experiences have you answerers had in Law or Business? I’m rather turned off of law after talking to this person today, but you never know. If going into business, my main perrogative is money, and I’m not tremendously mathematically inclined (I can pass the classes, but not excel), so I was recommended to look at the health care field.
Does anyone have a Masters in Health Care Admin? Or an MBA with an emphasis on Health Care?
thanks, sorry if I rambled, it’s a long story, but your input would be appreciated!
I should have mentioned this, sorry!, but I’m not at all interested in continuing with Psychology. The amount of school vs. money made does not appeal to me. I have considered all areas of work in the psychological field from psychiatry to social work to research, and none seem to offer what i’m looking for. thanks though ![]()
Need some insight on law school, med school or graduate school?
I am a biology major. with minors in chemistry. I am a auxiliary member at the my home town hospital where i volunteer in the ER. I also did some research in HCV with one of the tenure here at my university. I have a 3.5 GPA and 2 semesters left before i graduate. I can go to medical school with my MCAT score of a 39. I can go to graduate school at cal tech because of my GRE scores and EC’s. But TBH, Right now I think I want to switch it up and go to law school.
The thing is I have taken nothing that would prepare me for law school. Does Law school look highly on broad undergrad course studies? I am willing to stay another year after i could graduate to do some volunteering at something that might make it easier for me to get into law school, and to study for the lawschool exam and to take a few (40 hours) worth of classes to try and get into law school.
What i would like is some input on what i should do in this situation. Facts, stats, ideas anything please
Chance at going to a PhD Program?
Hey guys, I know I really want to go into graduate school but of course it’s gonna be the case of "low GPA" …
My overall GPA is 2.81, I’m hoping it will go up to 2.9 ish (worst case is 2.85) by the time I’m done with this semester. Past 60 credit hours should be around 3.1-3.2 … I’m aiming for a GRE score of 1300-1400. Needless to say I’m gonna bust my **** prepping for GREs.
I have 1.5 years of research lab experience. This semester alone I have started doing conference presentations and whatnot…. I should have 5 conference presentations and 6 mentored presentations from this semester alone.
I have worked in two research labs of really famous professors in Psychology and I talk to them frequently. One of them developed the general aggression model and the other pretty much invented the field of psychology and law. So I know I can get some really kick-A recommendation letters. I don’t want to state their names :< So yes I know what their names are …
With those stats do you think I would have an okay chance to get into a state university for a PhD program in Psychology?
Some schools I’m thinking about applying to are: Washington State University, University of Iowa, University of Missouri.
I just want to know what my situation is realistically and what I can and should do … thanks!
Oo cool! I forgot to mention that. I am working on 2 publications with other grad students … hopefully that will help me too. I have also peer reviewed papers for APSSC grants.
Masters in English programs?
What are some good MA in English programs?
I am truly in crisis about where to apply to and more importantly, where I QUALIFY. I REALLY want to go to Cali but all the UC’s deadlines have passed or don’t have my program. Here are my stats if anyone could maybe help me, it would be EXTREMELY appreciated!!
I graduated from Stony Brook University (SUNY) a year early with a double major in Sociology and Religious Studies (weird, I know). I was editor of my HS newspaper but did not write in college due to my heavy course load. I have studied abroad, made Dean’s List for many semesters and have several extracurricular activities from my undegrad years (I was an RA, won campus awards, and served on eboard for my sorority).
Age: 21 (graduated 1 year early)
GPA: 3.02 ( I was a science major my first year..bad move, but made Dean’s list for successive semesters, have a 3.7 and 3.5 GPA’s in my majors)
GRE: still haven’t taken it but my base score with no studying for verbal was around 550.
Experience: Internship for Vogue Magazine for about a month for fashion week (Editorial department), work experience, good recommendations.
I have no guidance on where to apply or anything. I would want to get my MA in English and teach High School English. I would also like to earn my PhD following my Masters. Thanks SO much everyone! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Fatima: what do you mean NC colleges? (thanks for the input everyone!)
Am I being ridiculous or my parents? I am 21 lol?
I have 4.0 GPA and this summer I am taking a intensive summer course which will save me about 3-4 k at least in tuition and I am taking the GRE which is like a super intensive SAT for graduate school in July. I have a summer job and the job is eating up all my time. I am working 11 hr days as it is and in order to do the proper amount of studying to do well on the GRE I will have to manage to make it 13 hr days even though I am physically super exhausted from my job as a farm hand. I am quitting my job but my parents are mad because they think I won’t have enough work to do. Like WTF! I still would have to work at least 8 hr days and between dooing chores and favors eating and sleeping I won’t have any free time. Any time I usually do have I like to spend learning to program so I can do some entrepreneurial stuff on the side. They think this because I would sleep in on weekends when I came home from school. Like I don’t even party, I am going to become professor. WTF. I am I being ridiculous or are my parents slave drivers? This is my lunch break – I just finished working from 7- 12.
Grad school admissions help!?
Hey everyone! I’m sure people post their stats so others can review their chances of getting into schools, and as annoying as it may be sometimes its REALLY helpful in my opinion.
Anyways, I wanted to know, is a flat 3.0 good enough for ANY decent grad school? I know its very competitive out there but sometimes it seems as if there is NO chance to go to a decent school without a 3.7 or higher. It seems like getting into both undergrad and grad has gotten MUCH harder than before.

I have no guidance on where to apply or anything. I would want to get my MA in English and/or Journalism. MY dream school is USC. How is SFSU as well? Also, I’m from NY so would I have an advantage being out of state? Thanks again!
Am I being REALISTIC about this?
It has been my dream to do PR/Journalism work at a leading fashion and lifestyle magazine like Cosmopolitan. I want to go to N.Y.U. for their graduate magazine program. Do I have any chance of getting in?? I am:
- 22 year old female
- Indian descent
- 3.14 GPA
- Receieved my B.A. in Public Relations/Advertising
- I have several professors who are willing to write me a recommendation letter (one of them received his doctorates at N.Y.U. and can attest to my skills for an upper-level/difficult course)
- I have also done 4 internships
- I have NOT taken the GRE’s yet… I wanted to study and be FULLY prepared/confident before I take them — but I got a 1700 on the SAT’s if that gives you an idea of my capabilities
Do I have a good chance at getting in?? Especially if it’s for my masters versus a bachelors..?
Having trouble choosing to become a Physical Therapist Assistant or earning a DPT in Physical Therapy.?
I’m 28 years old and have a BS in Exercise Physiology. I graduated with a 3.16 GPA, but my A&P and biology grades where poor. I would need to get most of the prerequisites for PT school including 8 credits of A&P, Chemistry, Physics, and 4 credits of Bio and 3 credits Statistics. These prerequisites would take about 2 years while working. PT school would also cost a great deal of money and the difficulty of the programs are concerning, as well as the GRE exam.
Since graduating school back in 2004 I have mostly worked in education and was pursuing a graduate degree in school counseling. I completed 22 credits of a 45 credit program but was unhappy with my education and lost interest in counseling. I mention this because my grades had been very good. I had a 3.77 GPA, which may help with acceptance into a PT program. I have also taken some Social Science, physical education, and human biology (prerequisite for PTA program) course work at the local community college and have 4.0 after completing approximately 20 credits. I have faith that I could do well in the prerequisites for PT school.
On the other hand I’ve completed the prerequisites for a PTA program at the local community college. I was wait listed for the fall 2010 program (as it is first come first serve), although there is still a chance for acceptance. If not I would need to wait until Fall 2011. I have a great part time job lined up to help pay for cost of living while completing the PTA program. If I later decided I wanted to become a full fledged Therapist there is always the bridge program at University of Findlay in Ohio.
Since I’m the type of person who has difficulty committing to a career I feel the PTA program will be less of a commitment and I can "try before I buy". I also like the idea of less paperwork and more time working with patients in the recovery process. Any advice greatly appreciated!
Graduate School..a couple concerns?
I recently graduated college and my GPA was not great at all. It was a 2.4
, I had a really hard time at college my freshmen and Sophomore yr. of college-I even pleaded with my parents to take off some time but unfortunately they did not let me.Things got so bad that i was actually almost suspended from the institution, fortunately I was allowed to take summer courses on Academic probation. During the summer course my grades started to improve tremendously and I was even doing a lot better emotionally. My Junior and Senior yr. of college turned out a lot better than the first two.You can even see on my transcript where things started to improve. Well my problem is that I’ve wanted to be a psychologist for a very long time. But i know my undergrad GPA is not up to part and not only that put I am not receiving any support whatso ever from family. I have been trying to find ways to get into graduate schools so I can reach my dreams. I was wondering what are some things I can do where graduate school is possible. I recently had an idea of getting my Masters online(and working hard) to show schools that I could do it. I’m pretty sure I could get recommendation letters from teachers that are good and do test prep for the GRE but I’v been looking online where some have said that having a Masters from an online program will be frown upon on PhD programs. So now i feel kind of stuck. Can someone give me some advice on what I should do? Please no rude answers I feel so defeated right now. I really really want this really bad,so i know i can find someway. Thanks.
What are my chances of getting in to Grad School for Microbiology?
I am currently a senior at the University of Nebraska (UNL) with a major in Biology. My GPA is a 3.6 and I scored a 1200 on the GRE. I have worked in an immunology lab for the last 2 years (not published yet but very active in my lab). I have contacted and met with various professors who have stated they want to work with me (3 of which are from UNL) I had Dr. Janovy write a letter of recommendation as well as 2 professors I have worked very closely with. I have applied to local school; UNL (again), Creighton, and UNMC. I’m just wondering if anyone can give me any idea of the chances I will get into Grad school for microbiology. Could you give me a rating of 1-10, 10 being "of course you will get in" and 1 being "no way are you getting in"
Be honest, me and my fiancé are waiting to set a wedding date until we know about grad school.
Many questions about Medical School and/or PA school…?
I’ve tried finding an online forum to post these in, but I can’t find one with enough relevant information and users….so I’m hoping someone on here can assist.
Alright, so I’m going to be blunt here….I was a pretty bad student for my first two years of college. I’m currently in my junior year now working on a degree in Liberal Arts (officially). I suppose I could change my major whenever I want…but that’s not really what this is about.
My current GPA is under 3.0. When I graduate, it MIGHT barely be at or above 3.0. this, of course, will make it difficult to be accepted into most medical schools from what I understand.
Now, the thing is, my grades over the summer and this semester have been impeccable…also, all my grades in health-related fields have been A’s (granted, its only Developmental Psychology and Biology 201 w/ lab). I am interested in the health field and already scheduled two classes that are considered prerequisites at most schools for next semester (Microbiology and Genetics).
My main issue is, I don’t really know how things are going to play out. I am a poor college student…and Medical school is EXTREMELY expensive. PA school is less expensive, but also less appealing to me. While I wouldn’t mind working under the supervision of a licensed physician, I would especially enjoy the more challenging cases associated with an MD or a DO.
I currently attend Penn State University. I am looking for guidance both on the application process:
Who should I get to write letters of recommendation?
For PA school, it normally lists 200-500 hours of patient-contact health care experience as a prerequisite for applying. How do you get that kind of experience?
What sorts of things are schools looking for in the essay? Like I’m assuming they don’t want to just read another well-written "I want to be a doctor to help people" essay.
…and on my abilities to get into a medical school or PA program. I’m looking for recommendations in or close to Pennsylvania of schools that would be reasonable for me to consider.
In addition, I’ve had the following questions:
How likely is it that a hard-working individual with a GPA <3.0 would even get an interview at a decent Medical School?
How difficult are the MCATs? What about the GREs? Some PA schools require the GRE.
Thanks for any help in advance!
What is the admissions process like for an American University graduate program?
I’ll be applying into American University’s Master’s of Political Communication program. A few months ago I traveled to D.C. and met with the director of the program and asked her a few questions. It wasn’t an admissions interview, but I’m hoping that shows some initiative.
I have a 3.5-3.6 GPA (the latter if I pull all As this semester) and I attend a small state university. My school is on it’s way up, everything I’ve found online seems to classify it as a second tier school. I have not taken the GRE yet, but I’m scheduled to take it in two weeks and I am taking a prep course now.
I’m actively involved in my campus student media and a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, although not very active. I’ve received two scholarships and completed one internship at the local newspaper. I’ve applied for a second internship next semester with my local Congressman. However, my only community service is participating in the Relay for Life planning for the last three years and working on a local campaign for a county commissioner.
If anyone has applied into a graduate program at AU, do you think I am adequately qualified or that there’s anything that I can do before the deadline (Feb. 1) to increase my chances of acceptance?
I’ll also be applying to George Mason University and George Washington University (I don’t think I have much of a chance, but it’s always worth a shot). American University is my first choice.
Questions about GRE exam…?
I am a sophomore in college and was just recently made aware about a GRE exam. I’m not exactly sure what it is, but my friend said that it’s basically the "SAT of college," meaning that it helps you get into graduate school. For my first question, is there only one GRE exam for all students nationwide (like the SAT), or are there different exams depending on your field of study. For my second question, if I am applying for an engineering graduate school, can a high GRE score (700+) completely overshadow a final GPA of around 3.0? What I mean is, is the GRE exam a MAJOR indicator of acceptance into graduate school?
Am I likely to be accepted into Pharm or Med School with a Master of Arts in Biology?
I have my B.S. in Zoology now and I am trying to decide if I should apply for my MA or MS in Biology.
My Main goal is to go to PharmD or Med School. I would rather do the MA program because 1.there is more course work and less emphasis on a thesis and 2. I don’t have to take the GRE (for the schools I have found).
My concern is I will end up wasting my money with a MA because I might not be able to do anything with it. I need some helpful advice here folks. Thanks so much!
(I know PCAT/MCAT, GPA, EC and other things play a role in process as well)
Would universities allow me to take graduate-level courses on a non matriculated basis? I recently applied?
and got rejected from a Masters program in experimental psychology because I had horrible undergrad GPA and GRE scores. I’m crying and thinking about killing myself. I graduated from college in 2009. I have three years of experience volunteering at a research lab.
Will I get into Physical Therapy School?
I have 3.5 GPA and above average GRE test schools, around 140 clinical hours and by next year I will have my bachelors from UNCW in Exercise Science. However I have a C in my Chem 101 course and a C in my developmental psychology course, both of which are likely to be reviewed. ( I took both my freshman year of college) Am I likely to get into the Physical Therapy Programs at ECU or UNC Chapel Hill? I tend to over worry about these things.
I want so badly to go to graduate school. What should I do?
I graduated from college 3 years ago with a major in biology from a good liberal arts college. My GPA was 3.4, but my lowest grades were all in my science courses. I’m FASCINATED by biology and geology, but it’s really hard for me to understand some of the concepts — particularly when it came to "little science" (chemistry and cellular biology). I can’t seem to get it together enough to do well in the field that I am most interested in pursuing. I don’t think I’m smart enough to get my Ph.D. but I can’t stop thinking about it.
I am currently a science teacher at the middle school level. I love teaching science, but every now and then I go online and look at the course descriptions for PhD programs and nearly start crying — I want to do that so badly!
I have a master’s degree in education and a 3.9 GPA in my master’s program. Again, my undergrad GPA was 3.4. I took the GRE’s my senior year of college. I got a 620 Verbal; 700 Quantitative and 4.5 Analytical Writing.
Anyone have advice for me? Should I just go for it and start applying? Is there anything I can do to make my dreams more accessible?
GPA for Political Science PhD Programs?
Hello all,
I am interested in getting a Ph.D in political science, and I have been reading a lot of threads online about how graduate schools are interested in more than just GPA, GRE scores, etc. I am currently a freshman at the University of Scranton – it seems odd that I would be looking into Ph.D. programs at this very early stage, but the intensely competitive nature of vying for a Ph.D slot depicted from these forums and threads have piqued my interest a little early.
My first question concerns MA programs. My school does not currently offer an MA program in political science, and I am applying to grad school for an MA/PhD program. Forums and threads seem to indicate that applicants with an MA already have an edge in the process. Is this rumor found to be more accurate than not?
In addition, I currently have a 4.0 GPA. I realize, of course, I’m a freshman, and that GPA is bound to decrease (although it’s certainly not my intention). I have been invited to join an Honors Program. However, my school lacks many publishing opportunities. This program offers me the ability to write a thesis, but there is no public outlet to publish this at my school. This being considered, will grad schools take my school’s lack of publishing opportunities against me in the admissions process?
Finally, should I adopt a mentality to preserve my GPA at all costs – including taking more challenging and diverse courses? Which is more important – a rigorous academic curriculum or a pristine GPA?
If anyone out there can offer any insights, I would greatly appreciate the help.
Many, many thanks!
What are my chances of getting into graduate school for biochem/biomedical science.?
What are my chances of getting into George Washington University, or any graduate school for that matter. I want to major in biochemistry with a concentration in metabolism. Right now my lack of physical chemistry is preventing me from applying to most programs, and the schools offering it in my state are either much too far for 3 day a week travel or much too expensive (that one course is more than a whole semester at my school!) I spent most of my undergraduate career paying out of pocket (close to ,000 room and board) before i received a full scholarship, so i am not looking forward to paying more than 00+ for one class when tuition alone at my school for 18 credits wasn’t even that much. GW doesnt require pchem for the phd program. I have decided that getting a masters first is not a bad idea. I have a 3.5 GPA, graduated c u m laude. I have a year of biochemistry experience, and 6 months of unrelated research experience. Will get great recommendations from my research mentor/biochem/immunology teacher, physics, and seminar professors. I have yet to take the GRE, but my preliminary scores show 600 math and 510 verbal, which I know is on the low side but i am studying hard to get the math score up. I am taking a year off before grad school. What can I do to improve my chances? BTW, I am also applying to howard. I was also thinking of the georgetown masters program that does not require the GRE, but think my GPA may be too low for that program. What would be a good safety school for me?
Grad school concerns?
I’m a math major planning on going to grad school for statistics, and I was wondering – what are my chances are of getting into an elite school?
My biggest concern is that my GPA isn’t that great. It’s only a 3.0, but I also go to one of the top liberal arts schools in the country – so the workload is tough. However, I have gotten A’s in both my probability and statistics courses (because of this, I am currently the TA/grader for the advanced probability course offered at my school), and I have a B average in the courses I took for my major.
Here are field-work experiences that I have done/am currently involved in:
1) I am conducting an observational study as part of a project for my stats class. I plan on finding out what influences students at my college to start smoking and presenting the results later in the semester.
2) One summer, I worked for a professor at an ivy league university, calculating statistics for his experiments having to do with treatments for mental disorders.
3) I spent two summers collecting presidential election statistics for a renowned polling institute.
4) I taught an SAT math class over the summer. I was one of 4 students chosen to do this because I had a 780 on the math section of the SAT.
5) I am treasurer of my residence hall, so I do a lot of work with the student bank.
I haven’t taken the GRE yet, but I will be doing this next month.
Thanks to anyone who can help!
