PostHeaderIcon As a business undergrad, why do I feel as if I should get an MBA?I don't want to get an MBA!?

Looking for info on gre preparation classes, gre preparation courses, gre test course and more?

Hi and welcome to my blog,

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!

I’m interested in going to grad school for architecture. I’m studying the GRE however, every time I review course descriptions or go to a prospective schools graduate page – the letters MBA catches my eye as I should be studying the GMAT? Is it because my work experience is and has always been in a business setting?
I’m just not happy continuing business.
How worth while is getting an MBA? I feel like the probability of getting accepted into an MBA program are much higher because of my experience .. but I shouldn’t base what I want to do on that, should I? I’m also not sure why I’m all the sudden so GD ambivalent, so I turn to you yahoo answers. go!

PostHeaderIcon Graduating with my bachelor’s this spring – not sure where to go for school after this?

Ok, I have been to my school’s career counseling center, and talked to my 3 favorite teachers (who each then directed me to additional faculty), and I simply cannot seem to get the help i need looking at future school/careers.

In short, the career counselor wouldn’t shush about doing "what I love…", and i finally had to wear him down and make him realize that there is a bit of pragmatism involved in my future haha. I took all the career tests, and they say (and i generally agree) that I’m very analytical but also empathetic and I would be idea for careers in law and business.

A bit about me:
-23 years old
-Graduating with a Bachelor of the Arts in Psychology this year
-3.7 GPA, and I’m a good test taker (would do well in GRE/GMAT I assume, if going to Law I would need to take classes on the LSAT)
-When asked to make a list of what I want out of life (what I want my career to provide me with), the list is simply topped with: MONEY. It’s not as plainly materialistic as all that, but the life I want to live requires money. First of all, I want horses (have ridden and shown other people’s horses since I was a youngin’), and I want to be financially very stable, nice house, not have to worry about vet bills for my horses, etc.

So, I went out to talk to some facutly I know at my school and they have all thrown me in about 3 different directions each, so I’m posting here to see if anyone has some answer/solutions to my future haha.
The problem is, I either get the lecture of "do what you love" (which is BS, i can’t make money with horses – not the way I want anyway), or I get told vague ideas of what to do with minimal insight. For instance, I talk to an accounting teacher today who has his law degree, who struck it rich as an accountant in the 80s and is a real hard-a**, and he basically told me I’d be stupid to go to law school (too much money, won’t necessarily get a job when I come out), and that my strengths don’t play well to an MBA. And of course i’ve heard plenty of "you’ll be fine – you’ll do great in Business/Law school and be successful", but there is at least some truth to what this man said today…

So my question is, what experiences have you answerers had in Law or Business? I’m rather turned off of law after talking to this person today, but you never know. If going into business, my main perrogative is money, and I’m not tremendously mathematically inclined (I can pass the classes, but not excel), so I was recommended to look at the health care field.

Does anyone have a Masters in Health Care Admin? Or an MBA with an emphasis on Health Care?

thanks, sorry if I rambled, it’s a long story, but your input would be appreciated!
I should have mentioned this, sorry!, but I’m not at all interested in continuing with Psychology. The amount of school vs. money made does not appeal to me. I have considered all areas of work in the psychological field from psychiatry to social work to research, and none seem to offer what i’m looking for. thanks though :)

PostHeaderIcon Does the GRE test prep course work?

I was looking into the Princeton Review course and it is so expensive! Was wondering if it actually improves your score. What is better a tutor or a course? Which is harder on the math GRE or GMAT?

PostHeaderIcon what subject is better for a liberal arts major in the US?

HI friends, I have a masters in English language and literature from a public university in BANGLADESH. I want to start my education here again, but I’m really confused, since i dont really know what subject to choose, right now i have two in mind. accounting, and educational administration. both r ofcourse masters degree. for accounting, i have to take the GMAT, although i have the GRE, but since i’m planning to go to Georgia Southern University in statesboro , georgia. i’ll have to take the GMAT , otherwise i wont be able to get in. i just want to know, what does a person with an M.A in educational administration do? i loved my course of study(literature) but here in the US , its a path too complicated and almost impossible to succeed in. thats why, i want something in the middle, but not teaching, or , I’m thinking off completely deviating and going into the business area.
can you help me out with your suggestions, i’ll really really appreciate your help

PostHeaderIcon What are my chances getting into a top B-school as an early career minority female?

I attended a top 100 university, majored in journalism and earned a 3.3 GPA. I received some awards from my school for achievement in journalism and have extensive internship (12+), fellowship and freelance experience but I am worried that as a candidate who wishes to pursue a MBA at a top tier business school, I will be out of the running because of my GPA and lack of full time work experience. I have not taken the GRE yet but I plan to enroll in a prep course to ensure a high core. Additionally, I am a first generation Afro Caribbean female and I understand minorities and females are underrepresented in graduate schools. With that said, how likely is it that I will be admitted to a top school, even those with interests in "early career" applicants?
What are my chances OF getting into a top B-school as an early career minority female?*
The schools I am most interested in accept the GRE in place of the GMAT. As a journalism major I would like to take the GRE as it is verbal heavy–it is also less expensive and opens doors for other graduate programs. Also, I only mention gender and race because I noticed in other questions the respondents often mentioned minority and gender status as something to take into consideration.

PostHeaderIcon GRE / GMAT / TOEFL whats it all about?

Hi, i am doing my first year engg in comp. I have very specific query which i would like someone here to answer.

1. I am interested in doing a MBA degree in US. ( Remember i doing comp, and am aspiring to become an entrepreneur) which MBA course should i opt for?

2. It is necessary to take both GRE and GMAT? ( I am totaly novice at this, please don’t laugh if this question sounds silly to you!)

3. As i have mentioned earlier i am in first year, when is the correct time to take TOEFL, GRE and GMAT?

4.What is the target score in the respective exams that i should be aiming for if i want to get into top 100 universities in USA/UK.

5. I have to admit that, i am not nerd material! So which is decent college( You know, Not 2 good and not bad at all kinda thing?) for me.

6. This last question goes out to the people who are studying in US – Is it worth it mate? Going to US? I did my high school in UK and that was brilliant! But US with gun cultural and racism is it worth it. Thank u!

PostHeaderIcon Best way to prepare for the GMAT?

I was wondering what the best way would be to prepare for the GRE/GMAT? Kaplan offers courses, but I really didn’t want to spend 00 as oppsed to for the study guide.

Any ideas? Has anybody used the study guides exclusively?

PostHeaderIcon What is the the best way to study for the GMAT or GRE? Which one is easier to take?

Some colleges accept the GMAT or the GRE for some graduate programs. Which one is easier to take? Which one holds more leverage?

PostHeaderIcon Which test, the GRE or GMAT test, do students generally take to get into a Masters of Philosophy program?

I do not want to know which test is easier or less time consuming or how it relates to another test. I also do not want to know about other related tests (such as the LSAT)–or your personal experiences with a test. I only want to know which test (GRE or GMAT) is generally taken to get into a Masters of Philosophy program.

Let us know if we can add more things you want to know about gre preparation classes, gre preparation courses, gre test course
