Applying to grad school..help with some ??…?
Hello,
I need a mentor! I am so completely lost. I’m graduating from college and I have no idea what the next step is- but I definitely want to attend grad school.
However, i don’t know where to start
I’ve made an appointment to see a counselor in a few weeks- but i’ve seen them before and they are of no help. But i wanted to hear your advice on applying to grad school…I’ve read several books on the topic but below are some of the questions i have
1. the GRE…when do they offer it , and when should i take it if i want to get my masters… ASAP..( i believe i might be too late to even apply for next fall)- How long should i prepare?
2. letters of rec.- i dont have any professors i can ask..I am extremely shy and hardly speak up and i just moved one semester ago to this new college I’ll be graduating from BIG PROBLEM,..i dont know what to do..
3. do you really need like a 4.0 to get into a program…i know colleges say 3.0 is the cutoff but realistically speaking do they really accept people with 3.0!??? lwhere would you say is the real cutoff – 3.2, 3.3 ..do you know of anyone being accepted with below a 3.5 gpa?
4. I want to go into an MFT program- so i need field work experience. Should i do that independently or should i take a course that offers an internship? Will colleges look at it better if i took the internship as a class course?
5. can i get a letter of rec from where i intern?
Those are just a few questions i have… if you can help me with any of them- i would really appreciate it.
A question regarding G.R.E. entrance exam for admission to U.S. colleges?
I have a few doubts regarding admissions to the U.S. universities through G.R.E. for foreign students-
1) Does one necessarily have to give TOEFL alongside GRE, if he/she belongs to a nation where English is not a first language?
2) What are the scholarships provided according to the GRE scores(any rough idea)? Do they differ for different universities?
3) Which are the top 5 U.S. colleges having M.S. course in Electronics Technology and/or Communication Technology?
4) Are there some qualifying criteria(marks/grades/GPA of previous course) to be satisfied to be able to appear for the test?
Please answer my above queries.
I shall be really grateful to all those who answer.
THANKYOU ALL IN ADVANCE!

about the possibility to be admitted to a graduate school in the US?
Hey guys,I’m a sophomore in a top 100 university in China. The condition is a little weird to me now,I am the so-called top best 5 percent .Let me tell you why,I was admitted to a kind of class that offers special courses of two academies at the same time(there were about 6,000 students in one grade of my college, over 1,600 students who come from two of the best academies take part in the entrance exam and only 80 were allowed to enter the class and during the first two years of my college, some of the 80 has been "pushed out" cause’ they haven’t met the standard) And when we take exams,we have our particular papers that is different from others,I mean even more difficulty than the original courses,so we learn the courses of two academies and take the more difficult exam, then the question comes out,how about my GPA?I wanna go to the US to have the graduate course after I graduate from my college in China,I do not think TOEFL or GRE a problem to me,so GPA is the only problem. What could I do?I am not doing so great if you look at my GPA,and you know why now.But what gonna I do?The admission requirement of many colleges which are the top 100 in America usually says"GPA 3.60 or higher".What should I do?Please help me,Thanks a lot.
How much do grad schools care about where you went for undergrad?
I have two colleges to choose from, which I would be entering as a freshman. One is a large respected university. The other is a small private school, not particularly well known.
I’ve heard that its your course selection, GPA, and GRE scores that really matter, and while a good name for undergrad helps, its not essential. Anyone have any information on that? I think I would have a better college experience at the private school, but I don’t want to hurt myself.
(while my courses would be similar, my GPA would be higher at the lesser known college. my GRE scores could be higher at the larger university because it would force me to work harder, but I doubt it would be impacted that much. I’m good at studying on my own.)
The schools are UCSD and Azusa Pacific University
Suggest courses I can take in MS in USA….?
My score in GRE is 1320. I am doing my BE in MECH from CBIT, India. I am not interested in doing anything related to engineering. Can I use this GRE score to get into any other course, say for instance related to advertising, or management? Please let me know, the colleges I can apply, the scholarships that I can get. My engineering aggregate as of now is 75% and my high school agg was 85% ICSE. Got 87% in Intermediate(10+2)
Please help me out!
I went to a crappy school, completed, now I want to play with the big boys?
I went to Devry which by the sounds of my peers from other colleges, wasn’t so bad, but left me with to many questions to walk away from my education. I want to go to a really good school to further my education and sense I have my B.S. I would expect to work towards a M.S. degree. However, I am about to take my first grad course, without taking the GRE, school doesn’t require it. It’s a super hard school, top in the North Central US or something. I want to get some other opinions. If I don’t go for my masters, I could go for my FE license, or just continue working. I could also take some undergrad courses at night or weekends to help strenghten my skills. Anything is a possiblity.
The main dilima I have, besides to lazy to use spell checker on Yahoo Answers, is that I am not very confident in my ability to understand and interpret the the knowledge I will be subjected too. Perhaps because its such a big step, and its completely volunteer, unlike undergradate rigid daily schedule.?
M.S. through GRE and TOEFL?
I need a deep analysis about the colleges through GRE. All I know is that I want to do my M.S. in networking. Please suggest me the good colleges preferably in US or if any better. Please suggest me the courses worth going for apart networking, with its scope. I know its a lot to ask for, but please atleast give me a head start.
Thank you

How close are the practice GRE's to the real test?
I just took a practice GRE online and did really, really bad on it. I got a practice book from the Princeton Review and have been studying for about 2 months. My test is in a week and a half and I’m freaking out about it. The grad program I’m applying for is Speech Pathology, which requires a GRE score at all the colleges. So my question is, how close are the practice GRE’s to the real test? Will my practice score reflect the approximate score I may get on the test?

PhD without GRE
PhD without GRE
If you are pursuing for a PhD but you do not feel confident with taking the GRE there are some universities in the US which do not require GRE exam. Some Small private (sometimes Catholic) Universities in US don’t require GRE or even an impressive undergrad GPA to enroll in Grad Degree Program. These are usually really good “teaching universities” as opposed to “research universities”. Also, there are a lot of “online universities” offering PhDs without GRE/GMAT score in the US. However, if you are not planning on having a degree on-line, then I would recommend you to take the GRE test. When you think about it PhD is all about research, if you are not willing to take GRE or TOEFL, then why do you want to think about PhD? PHD requires intensive effort, you should be precise and goal oriented to complete PhD in US Universities. In comparison to completing PhD GRE is a children game. If you plan to take the easy route, then you will surely face the consequences few years down the road.
Also, even though you might choose eventually a program that does not require GRE, TOEFL or iBT/IELTS exams are compulsory for all students wishing to pursue an education in the U.S so if you already study for TOFFEL exam you just might as well learn for the GRE. Another point is if you are thinking to study Doctorate degree, then it should be good university, which has research in your field of interest and professors who will be supportive to take you as student. So, don’t waste your time searching for Universities for PhD without Gre, instead spend time to prepare for GRE.
And the last thing which is no less important is that it is very tough to get a visa without GRE scores.
