PostHeaderIcon Should I buy a GRE study guide with or without a CD-ROM?

Looking for info on gre preparation classes, gre preparation courses, gre test course and more?

Hi and welcome to my blog,

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!

I will be taking the GRE in the fall and I am looking into books that will help me prepare for the test. I have decided that I would like to get the basic Barron’s GRE study guide. However, I do not know whether or not I should get a book with a CD. I know I will be taking the test on the computer. What should I do?

PostHeaderIcon Do high GRE scores have an influence on admission to Graduate Schools in Europe?

I’m from Turkey and have been studying for GRE since i want to study in USA. But i will also consider applying European universities. Supposedly i have very good GRE scores, does it increase my chance of being admitted to a European university? If not, are there any similar(GRE-like) exams valid for Europe?
I bought Barron’s preparation book and i try to learn 100-150 words a day for the verbal part. I haven’t started to study for analytical writing section yet, but i will check out the tips for rephrasing and synthesizing in Toefl, and have a look at sample essays. Also, I have been reading English and American newspapers everyday on the Internet everyday. Finally,I don’t study for quantitative part because i’m mathematics major.

PostHeaderIcon Which is the best book to prepare for the new GRE test?

I have heard about many books like KAPLAN , BARRON’S, PRINCETON and the Official guide from ETS . I am very confused. And I need the best help.

PostHeaderIcon what are the easiest ways to read GRE?

I am treying to memorize words of Barron for 2 month but it is too uch boring and also i forget so quickly. It would be helpful if anyone tell me the easy way of catching GRE.I want to sit for exam on march

PostHeaderIcon Where can I find printable GRE Vocabulary flashcards?

I am looking to find flashcards online for high frequency GRE words that I can easily print out. I just want a short list (not hundreds of words) that are the most likely to show up on the exam. The best would be Barron’s high frequency vocab list (with approx. 100 words).

I don’t want to download a card making program or anything like that.

Thanks.

PostHeaderIcon Is the PowerPrep GRE practice exam accurate in predicting actual scores?

Does an 800 in Quantitative on the PowerPrep GRE mean that I can expect an 800 or close in the actual exam? I have also used Barron’s and Peterson’s and got scores ranging from 720 to 800 (when timed). Also I’m applying to some pretty competitive grad schools in the US for an MS in Mechanical Engineering and my 65% (2i) UK Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering translates to a 3.5 GPA (with a few skeleton’s- C’s and D’s). So would a high GRE quantitative score offset the modest GPA (to me its a good GPA but apparently its average for the all knowing MS engineering students on the online forums)?

PostHeaderIcon Is it sufficient to prepare for the GRE exam using only the Barron's prep book?

I’ve already reviewed the math section of the Barron’s book and it seems I need to learn to relax, be focused, and learn how to solve problems easily and quickly because I know how to solve almost all of the questions but I get distracted by small "traps." I am spending half of my time memorizing words since I’m weaker in that. I am spending maybe total of one day’s time practing the essay question because I can only prepare so much for that given limited time (dec 4). Does anyone think I should consult other resources such as the Kaplan courses, etc.? Thanks.

PostHeaderIcon need Help! How can I improve my Verbal(300) in GRE exam within 83 days?

My previous GRE Score was Verbal(300) and Quantitative(790).
But I am weak in verbal section and read only two Books "504 essential words" and "Barron’s TOEFL essential words"
I have about 83 days up the exam date and need a score about 400~500 in verbal. Can you make a plan for me about sources, schedule and everything?

I need an efficient way to keep in mind that amount of difficult words!

I have also heard that It is better to learn the GRE words in a brief story to keep in mind. But I didn’t find any material containing GRE words passages.

PostHeaderIcon Are my GRE scores adequate enough to get into a M.A. Psychology program?

I scored a 930 total: 380V, 550Q, and 5.0AW

I will have 2 years of research experience in a clinical oriented laboratory, 1 year of research experience in a social oriented laboratory, and I should be helping with research in a third laboratory this fall. My undergraduate GPA was 3.7; I’m also taking a few more statistics courses this year: regression analysis, ANOVA, experimental social psychology, and experimental methodology to bolster my statistics area. I will have my name on 3 abstract posters this year, and I’ve started to write the literature review section for a manuscript where I will be the second author. The only annoyance in my application is my GRE score. I studied for about 3 months; I did not take more than two practice exams, however. Perhaps this was my downfall? I felt so stressed before the exam and during. I have a passion for writing, so my verbal score does not accurately reflect my ability whatsoever. I’d appreciate any advice or feedback that anyone can offer me, or any insight as well. I currently own "Barron’s GRE 2009" preparatory book, and I have about 50 practice exams. Should I finish going through the book first and then try some practice exams when I have the chance? I feel like I should finish selecting graduate schools before I begin studying for the exam again, as most deadlines for M.A. psychology programs aren’t until later in the year (i.e., January, February, etc.).

PostHeaderIcon How much time did you put in preparing for the GRE (Graduate Record Examination)?

I know the answer depends on each indivdual person and their background, but I’m just curious as to how much time you all studied for it. I bought the Barron’s Guide to the GRE and the 10th edition guide from ETS. I am taking it on Sept. 28th in order to start grad school in January.

PostHeaderIcon Is Peterson’s a good study guide to use for the GRE?

Please reply asap as this is urgent. I’ve been using Peterson’s to prepare for my general subject GRE test which is on September 9th for a while now but my cousin who aced her GRE’s (just started her master’s at Harvard University last month) recently suggested that I use the Princeton Review, Kaplan or Barron’s. She didn’t mention Peterson’s so I don’t know if I should take that to mean that Peterson’s is not a very good guide to use for studying.

PostHeaderIcon What is the best way to study for the GRE?

I have an entire month to study with nothing to distract me. I have the Barron book but I´m so overwhelmed by the vocabulary and everything. What should I focus on more and in what order?

PostHeaderIcon What’s the best book/website to learn root words to help build vocab for GRE?

I really didn’t know it, but I have found, after starting to study for the GRE, that my vocab SUCKS.

I’ve got one of Barron’s GRE books, and I’m signed up for 3 of vocab builder websites on the net.

I think learning root words will help me more than anything… as opposed to memorizing the dictionary!

PostHeaderIcon What is the best book to use to prepare for the GRE? Princeton, Barron’s, Kaplan, or other books?

This will be my first time taking the GRE and I am wondering which book is better in preparing you for the exam. I’ve already bought a Princeton 2010 GRE book but was wondering whether I should purchase another book (such as Kaplan, Barron’s, or some other book). Which books, study habits, and test techniques helped you? I am wanting to get an M.A./Ph.D in Psychology as I am a double major in Psychology and Human Development with a Minor in English. Thanks!
