PostHeaderIcon Do I have a chance of getting into a Psy.D. program?

Looking for info on gre preparation classes, gre preparation courses, gre test course and more?

Hi and welcome to my blog,

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!

I’m 25, B.S. in biology. Will do well on GREs for sure (lots of studying until I’m ready). Don’t have any extracurriculars (just not that type of person) although I might join a club soon.

From what I hear it is very competitive.. so I really don’t see how I could get in especially since I don’t have a bachelor’s in psychology

Do I have a chance? Especially if:

1) I take a semester of psychology courses, the core ones that most programs seem to require

2) Do extremely well (95% or higher) on the GREs

3) Do well on the psychology GRE by studying for a few years for it

4) Join Psi Chi during the semester I take the psych classes

PostHeaderIcon Is it abnormal that I feel like everything is so difficult?

I feel like I can’t function in everyday activities, like work & school. I already have my Bachelor’s degree, but I had a low GPA, due to my disability. It feels like everything is hard to me. Is this a mental blockage or what? I would like to go to Grad School & get my Master’s degree & get a PhD, but looking @ my school’s course descriptions, I freak out. I feel dumb. I think I’d be wasting my time if I continue with school because I don’t think I’ll make it to Grad School since I don’t do well on research papers & I feel like the GRE is too difficult. It seems like I can’t function normally like other people, & as far as employment goes, I can’t keep a job because people say I work too slow. If I were to rush, anxiety would kick in & I’d have a panic attack or accidentally mess up or break something. I’m getting disability benefits, but I don’t want to make such small income for the rest of my life. I want to know how I can make myself more functional.

PostHeaderIcon M.S.(computer Science) from U.S. universities through distance learning in India?

Hello,

I am a resident of New Delhi, India. I have received my bachelor’s degree from Delhi university, India in Computer Engineering. Now I wish to pursue my post graduation degree (masters in telecommunications) from a reputed US university. I wish to undertake the online way of studying the course from India(any city) by which i can download the lectures on PC and submit my assignments online. Regarding this I have a few question that I hope you can answer.

* Which all universities have such online education mechanism in India? I know of one, Illinois Institute of Technology. What about others?
* Besides giving GRE, do i have to give any other exams also(e.g. TOEFL etc.)?

Hoping for an early reply,
Thanks,

PostHeaderIcon I study biotechnology at the undergraduate level in India. I wanna do my postgrad in Molecular Biology in U.S?

I study biotechnology at the undergraduate level in India. I’m interested in doing a Graduate Program in Molecular Biology in the U.S. I understand from the university websites that I should have completed an equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree and that I am also required to do the GRE-general and subject tests to be considered for admission into this course. However my course here in India is only a three-year program and I learn that the U.S undergraduate program consists of four years. Therefore am I ineligible to be considered for admission? What could I do to be considered for admission to this program? Is there any foundation course, which I could do?
Here in India, I could do a B.Sc honors program, which will consist of an extra year or alternatively I could do a postgraduate diploma in Biotechniques alongside my present degree, which is also a one-year program, but will that be considered?

PostHeaderIcon Eligibility for higher education in USA?

Hi, I’ve done Bachelor in Micro Biology (B.Sc.) in India under 10+2+3 education system. Now I’ll be moving to US in March-08 after marriage, I’m planning to pursue my studies in USA. If I’m not wrong to apply for any graduate course in US we need 10+2+4 education. What would be gud for me to qualify for the same? I’ve one year to finish something if it makes me eligible for 10+2+4. Presently I’m preparing for GRE as well.

PostHeaderIcon Should I go straight to Graduate School, or wait?

I am graduating with a bachelor’s in psychology this Spring 2011. I intend on going to graduate school to obtain a Doctorate and practice counseling and potentially teach at a university in the future.

I am only 19 years old (I skipped a couple grades) and I feel like I am being rushed. I have taken the GRE and I am not too happy with my results. My GPA is excellent; however, I know most graduate schools require a minimum GRE score, and unfortunately, mine isn’t very adequate.

I am not sure whether I should graduate undergrad, and then go immediately on to graduate school for my master’s, but not have my heart set on the school. Or, I will graduate, and then enroll in a GRE prep course, while working, and hopefully bring my GRE scores up greatly, and then apply to more desirable schools.

Graduation is rapidly approaching, and since I don’t have my heart fully set on a specific school(s), I feel like it is foolish to rack up my loans by attending graduate school that isn’t my first choice. Unfortunately, I feel like a loser by taking time off school.

PostHeaderIcon I have a BA in History and I want to get my master's in math. GRE question?

I just got my BA in History because it was the quickest route, and my counselor told me that I do not need to be a math major to go to graduate school for math, I just need to pass the math GRE.

What I am wondering is how can I best prepare for this exam. Do you have to have the equivalent knowledge of a Bachelor’s in Math? I have not taken any upper division math courses but I have taken several lower division calculus classes.

What would you recommend for me?

Thank you so much!

PostHeaderIcon What courses do I need to become a Nurse Practitioner?

I’m currently pre-med student majoring in Psychology but am considering being a Nurse Practitioner instead. I know that you need a BS in nursing to more forward to become an NP but what I’m wondering is if there are accelerated programs if you already have a Bachelor’s Degree. (in my case, a BS in Psychology) and I would have already taken my MCAT so would that be looked at as an alternative to the GRE??

PostHeaderIcon Do all graduate schools require a GRE? How much time should I allow for studying for GRE?

I am contemplating taking courses this Spring semester at a community college to brush up
on some courses. I currently hold a bachelor’s degree in General Studies (1991). But perhaps
instead of taking coursework this spring semester, I should use this period of time to study for the GRE? How many months does one spend studying for the GRE? At this point, I do not know
what my grad school major will be, and I will probaby enter grad school as a non-degree seeking student. I am hoping someone knowledgeable about grad school, or who still has the process fresh in their mind, can answer.

PostHeaderIcon Is my GRE score (1100, 4.5 writing) strong enough to get into a tier 1 school master's degree program?

I graduated this past May with my bachelor’s degree, and I am now pursuing graduate study. I took the GRE last year, and only scored a 1010, with a 350 verbal score. I got rejected by two gradutae programs. After studying for a year, I raised my score to an 1100 and got a 440 on the verbal and a 660 on the quantitative, 4.5 analytical writing. Still my verbal score isn’t high, and I have an undergraduate GPA of a 3.3, so it’s good enough, but not great. A lot of the programs seem to prefer that you have a 550 on the verbal, but since I’m not a doctoral candidate, I don’t know how much they factor in your GRE score. I am going for a master’s degree in mass communication and want to conduct research in international relations. I have 3 semester of statistics courses, and strong letters of recommendation. I also have experience working in mass communication and a study abroad experience. So overall, is my graduate application packet strong enough to get into a tier 1 school, or should I lower my standards?

I’m thinking U of Georgia, U of Florida, U of California, nothing like Ivy League, but still highly ranked.

PostHeaderIcon Question about GRE exam?

I am a junior at USF. I am going to be getting my PhD in Psychology. My question is, is the GRE exam the same for everyone in any field? My friend is going to be a speech pathologist and is talking about taking the GRE exam also. I would think that the exam would be related to the degree in which you are going for, not just a general exam. My friend was talking to a speech pathologist and that person gave her a review book for the GRE exam so we can study for it together. Can anyone tell me if its just a general exam like the SATs or is it specifically related to what you are going for? Also how much does it cost each time you take it?
Also do you have to have your bachelor’s degree before taking the exam or can you do it before?

PostHeaderIcon Should I Take The GRE Math Subject Test?

Hello,

I got my bachelor’s of mathematics last year and I’m taking a year off this year to travel a bit before going to do my master’s (I’m hoping to enroll in engineering). Anyway, I took the GRE General test and my results were not spectacular (470 verbal, 740 math). I’m signed up to take the math subject test on the 7th of november, but I’m debating on whether I should or not.

Since I’m taking a year off, I’m not doing any math, and I haven’t had access to any of my books or notes or anything. And I guess being in Korea learning Korean, I haven’t been studying much.

I’m primarily looking at schools in Texas since they seem to be within my reach (california universities are out of my reach I think), and those I’ve looked at so far do not require the Subject test, just the general. But I would not like to be disadvantaged or to see admission refused to a certain university because I didn’t take the GRE Subject test.

I’ve been gathering my documents and stuff and I’m about to apply, so I don’t know if there will be schools that I will want to apply to that will require the GRE Subject test. It’s possible that I apply to 4 or 5 schools.

Seeing that it’s been a few months since I’ve done any math, and since I’ve not had access to my books, do you think it’s worth taking the test? I’m afraid that if I do take it, it just ends up hurting me because of poor results.

I need advice…
By guessing, I mean just choosing random answers without really looking at the questions.
Yes, if I didn’t get 800 on the math part, it’s because I didn’t pace myself well and ended up guessing on the last few questions because I ran out of time.
