question about applying for us universities for international students?

Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!
Is it necessary to pass GRE exam for international students that have passed the academic ielts or academic ielts is enough for admission?
I have GPA around 6. Suggest some universities outside India where i can get admission for masters?
I’m an Indian doing B.E. (Computer Science and Engineering) in India. At the end of my course, I expect my GPA will be between 5 to 6.5, but I have many certificates (see below)
I haven’t yet given my GRE/TOEFL/IELTS, but I hope it won’t be a big hassle for me.
Can some1 plz list the universties in US/UK in which I have chances of getting admission for Masters?
Is it possible in Auckland University (NZ)? If so what about the living cost when compared to US/UK?
Does GPA dominate over other valuable certificates?

ABOUT THE EDUCATION PATTERN HERE (YOU MAY SKIP READING)
To be frank, only 10% (at most) of the professors/lecturers here know what they’re teaching. Others just blabber something in class and go. They do something in the name of teaching, just to get their salary which is between 20000 to 40000 INR.
Examples:
1) My mam who takes "computer networks" says "this computer will hav a port number right?"
Sad that she doesn’t even know that a computer is identifed by something called IP address.
2) There is another fellow who takes "System Software". He is a big a**. He doesn’t even know basic swap program in C. But he has done M.E.!
The correction pattern here is the worst you can see in the world. 42 pages of answer sheet corrected in 1 and half minutes. They don’t read whats written in the answer sheet. If we write something in a different way (but is correct), they don’t even bother to see if its correct or not. They just want us to write whatever is given in the book. I am not used to this in my school (which was far better). Moreover because if incidents like this, I lost interest in academics and this further made me take things easily. I dont have any satisfaction that i learnt something from college.
This extends to most of the colleges here except IIT, NIT, BITS, SSN, Sastra University etc.

LIST OF CERTIFICATES
During my 11th, i did project on "cartography and cryptography". third place in state level and got consolation prize in national level.
Then I did a small presentation at IIT-M in the same topic as I was asked to do.
.
During my second semester, i was a finalist in a software cracking contest conducted by a Madras Inst. of Tech.
I (along with my school teacher) did an online quiz software using php/js/mysql and we hosted it at IIT madras which was used by around 2000 teachers . Well i know it isn’t a big thing but I hav a appreciation letter from Education officer, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, which comes under Ministry of Human Resource Development (India).
I recently won 2nd prize by participating in a Line following Robot contest.
I was a finalist in a Hacking and three other events conducted by SSN College of Engineering.
I’m got a inplant training offer from CEERI. My friend’s dad is working as a scientist there (:P). And for most of the work he does with students, he encourages students to present an IEEE paper based on it. The good thing is that most of such papers get selected for presentatio at IEEE conferences. I hope I’ll be one among those lucky guys to present and IEEE paper.
Apart from all these, I have many participation certificates.

ok… so with all these… is it possible for me to do masters abroad?
What are the requirements for clinical and counseling Psychology?
I want to do MS in Psychology. I have completed Masters, but had not taken any psychology class. Do I have to take some classes first to apply for that? I guess a GRE exam first. Please let me know what are the requirements for that and how does this process. I am thinking to get admission in San Jose State University. Please advise.
I want to do MS Computer Science in US. Which GRE should I write: General or Subject Specific?
I want t do MS in Computer Science in the US for which I want to write the GRE. However the ETS website www.ets.org lists two types of GRE exams: a general purpose GRE and subject specific GRE exams in 8 subjects. For getting admission into MS in Computer Science do I have to write the general GRE test or the Computer Science GRE test?
graduate university help!!!!?
hi all i’m an international student from india. my gre was 1300 (800 + 500) and toefl was 107. i had applied to 4 universities for MS in computer science- U PENN, JHU, NYU and U PITT.
i had pretty strong SOP with 4 fairly strong LOR’s from 3 professors and a company i had my training in. the problem with my profile was my acads. i only had a gpa of around 3.2/4. (i say around coz in my university we follow the percentage system in every course)
so the problem is that now i have received a reject from U PENN and the rest universities are saying that they’ll take around 2 weeks for the decision. but now my idiotic decision of applying to 4 universities is biting my a$$. so is there any other university which has admission open even now???
(i’m applying to north eastern univ tomorrow morning)… plz plz let me know any university or guidance. i understand there is no spoon feeding here but i have been so tense for the past few days that i cant see any hope….
also if not possible,
gpa around 2 and thinking of grad school in US. am i nuts?
first of all, hats off to those in NUS, Singapore who gets CAP 4 or 5 ( GPA 3 or 4). i don’t know how they are doing it.
But I can barely make it above 2.
I am studying in engineering faculty of national university of singapore and in my second year now. my gpa or what they call ‘CAP’ (cumulative average point) here is just above 2. i still have 2 years to improve my gpa but here it’s really hard to raise your gpa but very easy to lower it because each semester throughout the 4 year course, weigh equally unlike in other universities or other countries where the later years count more towards the final GPA calculation.
so if you know any uni in US which can accept an international student like me to their science or health admin master program ( afte my uni experience here, i am no longer bent on getting a phD and be an academic all my life)
i would be very happy to hear about it. I don’t have high hope to get into UPenn or Carnegie Mellon with my GPA. but is it possible for me to get into 3rd and 4th tier uni?
i am quite certain that the highest i can bring my gpa score is 2.5. And i would have 3 year work experience by the time i apply grad school cos it’s my bond here to serve 3 years in singapore after graduation for taking government grant.
But i am set on going somewhere after my time here cos’ i love travelling and experience new things like student life.
I will try to score well on my GRE but i think GPA counts alot in the application too. and will i still be able to financial assistance like loans, teaching assistant ship or any other category even if i get into 3rd or 4th tier uni?
I had a perfect academic history until i arrived in NUS.
Like i got all As in my A levels which i finished in UK but i just lost it in NUS. but does that matter to the admission committe? please share your experience if you have any.
hi pat. thanks for your info.
in UK, some universities do not count the first year at all but only the last 2 years or so.
i guess NUS follows US system then.
I have been looking at many grad school websites and most of them ask for gpa 3 or better and i am quite discouraged since i dont have the minimum requirement.
can someone tell me when should i write the TOEFL & GRE exams to get an admission in fall '2007?
i cant write in nov&dec bcoz i’m having my external exams. plz give me info about top universities in US? to get an admission in top univ’s how must should be GRE& TOEFL score? which univ’s offers scholarships? do we get more scolarships in fall(or spring)?
With this GRE score, can I get into the master program of those universities?
I know the admission process of universities also consider credentials other than the GRE score. But I just want to know with the scores I got today whether I need to re-take GRE exam to have fairly good chance of getting into the online/part-time master degree program in Computer Science for the schools mentioned below
My GRE score from the test today:
Verbal: 600,
Quantative: 720
Analytical Writing: N/A (I’ll probably get at least 4.0)
Schools:
Stanford University
Columbia University (CVN)
University of Southern California (DEN)
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Carnegie Mellon University – West Campus

Non-Degree Status Graduate Student?
I applied to a PhD program in Social Science. However, I didn’t receive the best GRE scores. The department I applied to has asked that I enroll as a non-degree grad student and successfully complete one course per semester for one academic year to demonstrate my abilities despite my GRE score. I have a Master’s degree, an excellent GPA, strong letters of recommendation and statement of purpose. It appears the GRE is the only thing making my admission contingent. Does anyone have any experience with being admitted to a grad program in this way?

I study biotechnology at the undergraduate level in India. I wanna do my postgrad in Molecular Biology in U.S?
I study biotechnology at the undergraduate level in India. I’m interested in doing a Graduate Program in Molecular Biology in the U.S. I understand from the university websites that I should have completed an equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree and that I am also required to do the GRE-general and subject tests to be considered for admission into this course. However my course here in India is only a three-year program and I learn that the U.S undergraduate program consists of four years. Therefore am I ineligible to be considered for admission? What could I do to be considered for admission to this program? Is there any foundation course, which I could do?
Here in India, I could do a B.Sc honors program, which will consist of an extra year or alternatively I could do a postgraduate diploma in Biotechniques alongside my present degree, which is also a one-year program, but will that be considered?
Which university is best for biotechnology in USA??
I want to join a B.Sc course in biotechnology(or related fields like biochemistry or genetics). I want to know, which is the best university to do biotechnology from(it would be great if you could justify your answer). Is Harvard good in biotechnology????What is GRE(I am an international student and I know nothing of it) and would I still have to give GRE if I got a good SAT score, to get admission into a good university..Thanks in advance
which are the most popular courses in the us and the uk – engineering or mba?
do u get paid better with a postgraduation degree in engineering or mba? (in usa) i’ve heard that studying mba in us is very expensive. is it true? if i take a loan will i be able to pay it back once i start earning? i’ve also heard that only people with some work experience get better preference for admissions. MOST IMPORTANTLY WHAT EXAMS SHOULD I TAKE FROM INDIA (LIKE "GRE" FOR ENGINEERING) TO STUDY MBA IN US AND HOW MUCH SHOULD I APPROXIMATELY GET TO GET ADMISSION INTO A REPUTED MBA SCHOOL WITH A SCHOLARSHIP?
GRE!! When should i give my exam?
Hi.. I’l be completing my engineering in May 2011 and i’m pursuing a post grad and thinking of giving the GRE exam.
I need some help on that.
I’ve heard the universities help our with the funds like scholarships and all. I’m from India.
Also i know that the syllabus is gonna change from august. So i have to give my test earlier than that..
Ive done some preparation keping GATE in mind. Now that ive decided to give GRE as well, I think i’m kinda prepared. But i’l still need a lot of preparation.
Please help me out with the date. When will it be the best so that i get the best response from universities and i get admission well before the courses start?
Thanks.
Low GPA, want to go to Grad school, here is my story…….?
I would like to go to Grad school for Public Health….think epidemalogy or behavioral science……and I have a poor undergrade GPA 2.58, i recieved a B.S. in Biology and went to Indiana University….i worked all thru college and was not able to participate in a numerous activities. i am working on finding a GRE prep course as well…….so I was wondering:
1. What is the BEST GRE prep course…..I learn better with hands on method?
2. Any school suggestions?
3. How negatively will my GPA affect my chance of admission if I do horrible/average/or excellent on the GRE?…….I got a year to prepare, but its going to take awhile to get things moving cause some of those GRE prep courses are at least a GRAND!!!!
GRE score of 1230 (Verbal 500, Quants 730) for getting admissions to US schools offering phD in Bioinformatics?
I took my GRE on 29th Nov 2010 and my TOEFL is due on 11th Dec 2010. I have done MS in Pharmacoinformatics from NIPER Kolkata. I wish to apply to schools in US offering phD in bioinformatics. Is a score of 1230 good enough to get admission to schools like North Carolina State University and Iowa State University ? Which are the other universities that I can go for which are having a deadline of application in and around last week of Jan 2011 or first week of Feb 2011 because it will also take some time for the official GRE and TOEFL scores to reach the respective universities ? Can they waive the deadline for score reports if I mention about it in a separate letter attached to the application materials ? Please anyone guide me on this as soon as possible.
to do mba in any USA colleges,do i need to write toefl exam?
i am planning to do mba in any colleges in USA,for that do i need to write toefl or gre exam?is there is any colleges accepting admission without this exams?
I want to go to MFE school, I was a pre-med major in college. My stated major was a liberal arts/humanities?
I was a humanities major but took science calculus classes in order to do my pre-med reqs. I have a 800q on GRE. I know C++ but not through a course. can i gain admission or do i need other reqs? thanks
What is the best way to solicit a recommendation?
I need to get recommendations from my professors for graduate school but only have one professor that I have had more than one class with. Admission to the grad program is more dependant on your fit with the faculty and their research areas then your grades or GRE score. Recommendations are very important and I have a 4.0 gpa, but how do I solicit one from a professor I have only had one class with? Can I approach a professor I have never had a class with but my interest is in his field of study and I would love wo work with him as a grad student. (He only teaches graduate level courses , which is why I have not had a class with him yet).
