Solution to this math problem?
Looking for info on gre preparation classes, gre preparation courses, gre test course and more?

Hi and welcome to my blog,
I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!
Can anybody help me with the answer to this problem?
a) column A is greater
b) column B is greater
c) A & B are equal
d) cannot determine
Column A Column B
[(3+3) + 4] ^ 4 45
Which one is greater??
By my calculations, a) is the answer, but the GRE guide says its b)
It’s one of those
a) column A is greater
b) column B is greater
c) A & B are equal
d) cannot determine
Column A
[(3+3) + 4] ^ 4
Column B
45
Which one is greater?
If ^ means that 4 is an exponent (usually, ^ really represents exponents), then
[(3+3)+4]^4 = (6+4)^4 = 10^4=10000, so obviously A is greater
However, if ^ stands for multiplication, then you have
[(3+3)+4]^4 = (6+4)^4=10^4=40, which means B is greater
So, if in the problem the second 4 is an exponent, you are right and there is a mistake in the guide
since column a and b are equal
it is not possible that anyone is greater to another one
Your question is not clear. Rewrite it so it is clear what is in Column A and what is in column B. I suggest you use rows, instead of columns for the display.
Column A- expression
Column B- expression
Then we’ll see…
Well, you made it clear, but the question is kind of absurd. What would be the point of comparing 1000 to 45 ?
I am not saying you are wrong, I suspect the question has a typo. I think column b should read: 4^5
4 to the fifth would be 1024
That would make a little more sense as a comparison problem.
Your question makes no sense……
the answer in the guide is wrong, is there an explanation?
column A is 10000
Your formatting didn’t come through that well, but if your column A is:
[(3 + 3) + 4)]^4, which is 10^4, or 10,000, and if your column B is just 45, then obviously column A is greater. Try posting additional details with the values on both lines; if there are any symbols you don’t know how to type, describe them.
Best of luck.
