Is there a good test prep course (ie: Kaplan or Test Masters) and do you think it matter whether I take an online vs. an on-site course?

Those courses are an incredible waste of money. Go buy a study book and figure out where you stand. There are also free computer based tests(like the real thing) at http://www.ets.org/gre/stupubs then go under test prep materials then… powerplus? you’ll see its the first link. The math is a problem solving test, you only need to know some basic alg. very basic geometry and a little probability. Then it’s all application. The verbal I found tough basically a vocab test, learn words, roots prefixes and so forth. After you’ve exhausted your ability to study on your own, if you still think you need more help, find a private tutor to help or see if your local university has a help session/math lab you can take advantage of. Those Kaplan course won’t tell you much more than you can read out of any book and they cost close to a grand. You can get the same information from a book for free at your local library.
