I hear your pain. I had been out of school for 3 years before going back to take my GRE. I grabbed a Kaplan book from Barnes and Noble and started working through it. I would do about an hour a night or at least try to. I also signed up to dictionary. com to get words sent to me via email every day to help with my vocab. You will do fine but you just need to practice. Also when you sign up to take the test they company sends you a CD with practice tests on it.

Search online or at a good bookstore for GRE Study Guides. Kaplan, McGraw Hill, Princeton are some of the publishers.

I took the GRE as an undergrad. I studied one summer with one of the Kaplan preparation books. I thought that it helped me a lot. I felt unprepared, but after studying for a while I was in better shape and scored pretty well. I would recommend using the book to brush up on math skills (since you can’t use a calculator), read books that you enjoy to increase your vocab abilities and comprehension, and look at the examples of the 2 essays you have to write because they want you to write in a specific way that you may not be used to (analyzing an argument, etc). You shouldn’t need a LOT of time to study, but I would go over things for a few months to make sure you know what’s expected of you on the test. Good luck!

Good prep is most important. It helps to understand how the test is scored. Be sure to read and understand instructions and directions. Time management is key so if you are stuck, move on to other questions. Practice! Practice! Practice!

    Good luck
