Hi and welcome to my blog,

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!

I’m planning on pursing my MS/PhD in psychology, however in order to apply to graduate schools I need to take the GRE Exam. Basically I have general questions about the test it self. # of questions? Good score/bad score, time allowed, when to start studing? How to study? I’m planning to take the exam in a year and half and I have been told to start early.

There are 28 questions on the quantitative (math) section and you are given 30 minutes. There are 30 questions on the verbal section and you are given 45 minutes. You will write two essays. For one you are given 30 minutes and for the other you are given 45 minutes. There is also an information section and an optional research section. Scores on the quantitative and verbal sections range from 200-800. The writing is scored on a scale of 1-6 (6 being the best). Buy a study guide (Princeton or Barron’s). They will come with a practice CD. Also utilize the GRE website. The more you practice in a "testing format" the better prepared you will be. Good luck!

The more time you allow yourself to study, the better off you will end up being. I gave myself a year to study, and I felt like it helped immensely. As you continue to study, you’ll get a better idea of specific areas that you need to concentrate more in versus what areas you already know well. My general advice for studying for th eGRE would be to sign up for a GRE prep class and pick up one of the Princeton Review type books from the book store. Those will give you basic ideas of the types of questions that you’ll have to answer and will give you detailed descriptions of how they expect the questions to be answered.

The test lasts about 3 hours I believe, and is composed of approx. 30 verbal, 30 math, and then your essay questions.

If you Google or use Yahoo, type in "GRE" and you’ll get a link to ETS’s website. They have basic answers to time issues as well as the number of questions in each section and practice questions.

Best of Luck to you! Sounds like you’ve got a good jump on things.
