I’m not a fan of Kaplan under any circumstances, but a GRE course of some sort may be helpful to you. Often local universities will offer prep classes to the public (I used to teach one of these), and they’re MUCH more reasonably priced and will give you the same information. Classes are probably most helpful if you need to bone up on your math skills. For the verbal stuff, you’re probably best off just buying a review book or two and studying on your own.

I didn’t like the price of Kaplan, so I took the Powerscore GRE class in NYC last year (http://www.powerscore.com ) and liked it a lot. Much more thorough than I expected and the book was a real help after the class. It was a good experience and it helped me feel a lot better about the test. FWIW, I’ve been recommending it to friends of mine taking the GRE.

Besides that, I spent a lot of time studying the Practicing to Take the GRE Book (http://www.gre.org ). Whatever you do, its a lot of work, but if you spend time studying that will relieve any anxiety you have (it helped calm my nerves, at least).
