PostHeaderIcon In general GRE test, is it possible to appear a voluntary verbal section before viewing the score?

Looking for info on gre preparation classes, gre preparation courses, gre test course and more?

Hi and welcome to my blog,

I opened this blog to help anyone who is preparing for his GRE exam.
I remember myself when I started - I was so lost and in such a panic.
Luckily I got this great Gre guide that helped me a lot
So study hard and good luck!

I appeared general GRE today, and got a voluntary part (actually not sure). And my score is less than I expected. I guess, that part was counted. But, if voluntary, than does it count, or is it possible to appear a voluntary part before viewing score. I heard that one of my friends got it after viewing his score. Please reply.

PostHeaderIcon Is the Kaplan GRE practice test accurate with actual GRE test scores?

I purchased the 2008 GRE manual which includes a CD with practice tests. I scored a 700 math and 470 verbal on the Computer Adaptive Test. I was extremely surprised because I missed several of the math questions. With Princeton Review, I scored a 610 math and 490 verbal. Are these tests accurate? Do they predict how someone will perform on the actual exam? Thanks!

PostHeaderIcon Can I nominate universities to receive GRE test results even though I haven't yet applied?

I am going to take the GRE – Graduate Records Exam soon but I haven’t yet applied to any universities – although I have some in mind. Is it alright if I nominate these to receive GRE test results even though I haven’t yet applied to the universities?

PostHeaderIcon Why is the paper based GRE test shorter?

I’m going to take the paper based GRE soon. On the official GRE document its says:

Typical Verbal section: 38 questions per section – 30 minutes per section
Quantitative section: 30 questions per section – 30 minutes

The time for the issue and argument questions are the same as the computer test – 45 and 30 minutes respectively.

Does anyone know why the paper based GRE test is shorter?

PostHeaderIcon Taking the GRE math subject test at 14 years of age?

I am 14 years old and I am interested in taking the GRE math subject test. I am not entering graduate school, though I have taught myself undergraduate, graduate (and beyond) level math and would like to see how well I do on the test. Is there a minimum age you have to be to take it? Or any other restrictions that would keep me from taking the test?

PostHeaderIcon GRE test…?

I’m taking the GRE in October & every student I have talked to has told me that it made them want to die and/or consume mass quantities of alcohol. However, every professor I’ve talked to has said that it’s not that bad. So which is it? And what’s a good score?

PostHeaderIcon What are the test dates & deadlines to pay & register for future GRE tests?

I’ve looked online & found NOTHING! & How much does it cost to take the GRE?

& what’s your experience with taking the GRE? I know it’s not that easy, but is it overwhelmingly hard? Did you pass off 1st try or had to repeat? Did you study or prep for it? Did you have a tutor or not? Did you study on your own or go to a class?

What should I do? I can’t afford to pay for a class or tutoring. I’m poor. But I heard that the 1st time you take the GRE, you can get a waiver or a voucher. If I’m disabled with limited income, can I get a voucher?

**Sorry for so many questions, but I’m trying to get a general idea of people’s experiences so I can know what to expect.

PostHeaderIcon GRE subject test to make up for a bad grade?

I got a really bad grade in my biology class. Is it a good idea to take the GRE biology subject test to kind of make up for it, assuming that I will do well on the test? I am planning to apply to graduate school in Engineering, not biology.

PostHeaderIcon I met a grad student who grades the GRE writing test and she says she spends a minute or 2 on each. Matter?

I took the GRE and there was a writing section–two essays. I just met a grad student who actually reads and grades the essays, and she says it’s so boring to read one after another, she spends about 1 or 2 minutes on them and half the time doesn’t bother reading the entire essay when she gives it a grade. Do you think this is making her scores inaccurate or do you only need about 2 minutes to read and score an essay?

PostHeaderIcon If you had your GRE scores sent to a school at the time you took test…do you have to re-send when you apply?

I took GRE General Test in January 2008; the computer test has you click which schools you want to send the scores to. I chose two, and one of them is the one I am going to apply to. I am just clarifying here…does this mean…all I have to do is fill out the application, the school will already have my scores— I just have to indicate that the scores were sent to them? Or should I re-send or what?
