Hello,
I got my bachelor’s of mathematics last year and I’m taking a year off this year to travel a bit before going to do my master’s (I’m hoping to enroll in engineering). Anyway, I took the GRE General test and my results were not spectacular (470 verbal, 740 math). I’m signed up to take the math subject test on the 7th of november, but I’m debating on whether I should or not.
Since I’m taking a year off, I’m not doing any math, and I haven’t had access to any of my books or notes or anything. And I guess being in Korea learning Korean, I haven’t been studying much.
I’m primarily looking at schools in Texas since they seem to be within my reach (california universities are out of my reach I think), and those I’ve looked at so far do not require the Subject test, just the general. But I would not like to be disadvantaged or to see admission refused to a certain university because I didn’t take the GRE Subject test.
I’ve been gathering my documents and stuff and I’m about to apply, so I don’t know if there will be schools that I will want to apply to that will require the GRE Subject test. It’s possible that I apply to 4 or 5 schools.
Seeing that it’s been a few months since I’ve done any math, and since I’ve not had access to my books, do you think it’s worth taking the test? I’m afraid that if I do take it, it just ends up hurting me because of poor results.
I need advice…
By guessing, I mean just choosing random answers without really looking at the questions.
Yes, if I didn’t get 800 on the math part, it’s because I didn’t pace myself well and ended up guessing on the last few questions because I ran out of time.
I’ll need to take either one to get into a grad program I’m interested in. What was the test like? Was it hard?
How much preparation is involved…lots of studying? I really don’t know much about it..just trying to get a heads up for what I’m in for.
I am also not able to view my scores online it shows some error message saying information does not match please contact GRE technical service. My deadlines are fast approaching coul some one please help?
I know it has something to do with admission into a grad program, but what is the test?
I took the GRE and at the end of the test it gave me two numbers a 550 and 650, the 550 was the top number, I don’t remember which score is verbal and which is quatitative
i am willing to take the general gre test in 2 weeks ,i was working on it for one month, the problem is that my native language is not english and its like mission impossible to me,can any one here gives me an advice specialy when i need a score above 1100.
I’m very nervous, I have less than a month to study but
I’m giving it a shot, the deadline to apply for my program is March 1st. Any idea of the latest date I should take the GRE? How soon should I schedule it? Are they offered pretty much every day?
I just took a practice GRE online and did really, really bad on it. I got a practice book from the Princeton Review and have been studying for about 2 months. My test is in a week and a half and I’m freaking out about it. The grad program I’m applying for is Speech Pathology, which requires a GRE score at all the colleges. So my question is, how close are the practice GRE’s to the real test? Will my practice score reflect the approximate score I may get on the test?
I took a tutorial for the GRE writing section. I was told accuracy of content didn’t matter, only writing ability. So if I wrote "Hitler made some tough decisions as President of the U.S. in order to wage war against Roosevelt’s attempt to establish a Germanic Aryan nation," as long as the sentence is grammatically correct, I won’t be penalized. Is that true and does it make any sense if it is true?
There’s this one graduate program which I wanted to apply to, but their deadline is December 31st.
How long does it take for the scores to be sent?
I am not a native English speaker.
I have the test this saturday. I am freaking out. I have been studying for it. I also already have a masters in math from Syracuse University with a 3.81 math gpa.
Are those expensive prep classes worth it, or will a book suffice? I’m only looking to get an 1100 or so.
Which of the two is considered the easiest? I plan on spending a month to prepare for either of these, I just need to decide which one to study for. Feedback will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
I’ve never been that great at math, so I’ve got a lot of ground to cover. A poor math GRE score kept me from getting into programs in the past, so I’ve got to aim for a high score (preferably 700 or above). Any tips in terms of materials or study techniques? Thanks!
