I took my GRE on 29th Nov 2010 and my TOEFL is due on 11th Dec 2010. I have done MS in Pharmacoinformatics from NIPER Kolkata. I wish to apply to schools in US offering phD in bioinformatics. Is a score of 1230 good enough to get admission to schools like North Carolina State University and Iowa State University ? Which are the other universities that I can go for which are having a deadline of application in and around last week of Jan 2011 or first week of Feb 2011 because it will also take some time for the official GRE and TOEFL scores to reach the respective universities ? Can they waive the deadline for score reports if I mention about it in a separate letter attached to the application materials ? Please anyone guide me on this as soon as possible.

After doing B.Tech in biotechnology from India I want to do my MS in biotechnology .Kindly suggest some good university for Molecular biology /Nano biotechnology /Genetic engineering /Food and agricultural biotechnology /industrial biotechnology .What will fee for the complete course & hostel fee etc .What GRE scores needed .Kindly suggest & guide.

where can i find GRE preparation material? i need specially Nova’s mathematics guide as it is comprehensive and easy to go through

I am preparing for the GRE and my knowledge of the business world is very limited. I need to improve it so that I can write better essays. Please give me a book that illustrates the traits of a successful business and corporate executive. Something I could read in two or three days (around 300 pages). Something like Machiavelli’s "The Prince," which provides the traits for a successful leader. If the book is a history of one successful business, like General Electric or Amazon.com, that would be okay, too. Thanks in advance!

The quoted lyrics of this classic song by Pearl Jam have moved me to the core ever since I heard it. It is an unquestionable fact that I love my country dearly. I love India, the country of my birth, my motherland. A land of tremendous opportunities and promises; filled with such highly capable, energetic and intelligent citizens and blessed with such a variety of resources, natural beauty and heritage, that it makes other less fortunate nations accuse God of partiality. I love my nation and so does the Almighty. My family is another thread that ties me to my land. The members of my family, together, build a perfect home. They are my support system. Being a sheltered child and the most pampered in my family, it is hard, for me, to imagine a life without any of them to guide me. Yet, one must grow up and make something of one’s self. I have always been a good student, an obedient daughter and a caring sister but there must be more to life than fulfilling just these roles and I want to live a full life.
My parents have sent me to the best of schools and given me opportunities that most
people can only dream of. I feel I’m duty bound to use them to the fullest and become someone whom they can be proud of. Moreover, I have always felt that one needs to give back an equal amount or more
to their country. My country is as important to me as my family because here is where I was born and took my first steps and it is this place that has been good to me and my family and provided me with every opportunity that I hoped for. In order to do something great and useful to mankind one needs to increase their ambit of knowledge. This can only happen if one travels to distant lands and witnesses the foreign cultures by oneself. I need to view for myself the positives and the negatives of a foreign culture to be able to judge fairly and add something valuable to mine own. To become a successful person one needs to stop being the perennial kupamanduka (the well frog) and mature into the frog that swims the seas. For, in the very words of Dr. Amartya Sen, noted Economist and Nobel Prize Winner, a kupamanduka is a frog that lives its whole life within a well, knows nothing else, and is suspicious of everything outside it. It talks to no one, and argues with no one, on anything. It merely harbors the deepest suspicion of the outside world. The scientific, cultural and economic history of the world would have been very limited had we lived like well- frogs. To rid myself of unreasonable suspicions that hinder my personal growth, I need to travel and experience the different cultures and ethics of people belonging to races other than mine. After all, knowledge is the only thing that increases in amount with sharing among people, that is, the more knowledge one shares, the more one’s personal bank of knowledge increases.
However, this does not mean that as soon as I move out of my country, I shall forget my people and settle down elsewhere permanently. For, whatever I learn from my experiences abroad will be of no use unless I can apply the positive factors of other cultures to mine own in order to rid my nation and culture of its own problems. But, I also understand that it is impossible for me to bring about a holistic improvement in the state of affairs in my country, alone as I’m merely an insignificant individual compared to the billion high population of the entire nation. So, in the end there is a rather selfish reason as well for my desire to return home after gaining experience worldwide. The reason is that the soul longs to return to its roots for as Cicero put it rather succinctly, “There is no place more delightful than one’s own fireside.”

I will appreciate any help. Suggestions are most welcome.

I’ve been studying for this test for months and I don’t feel I’ve improved very much. It seems this test is a glorified trivia test that’s impossible to study for. I chose it because it was cheaper than the GRE and is offered on a date that’s more convenient for me, but I’m worried I won’t do well.

Any Advice? For people who took the test, did you find it to be extremely difficult? I’m using study guides that are up to 6 years old, so maybe it’s been made easier in the past few years…

Well i am persuaing B.tech but i want to go for higher studies, i want to get a post graduation degree from a well reputed university of the world.

I had a dream of studying at Massachussets Institute of Technology, but sometimes i dont know how to carry on things.

I know i had to appear in GRE but sometimes it seems impossible get in MIT as it is considered as top college in world and its fee and everything…

Everyone says its impossible even people in vicinity so its difficult to seek someones advice.

I am very desperate towards this dream and sometimes get very tense as i am despearte to come this dream to reality..

in recent past i realized that my mom (55 years old) is forgetting the things at very damn fast rate, she is even unable to concentrate on things, she is not even responding properly in the way she use to do earlier. she is keeping herself aloof.

MRI REPORT:-
1) there is evidence of an extra-axial parafalcine mass lesion in left frontal convexity which is measuring approx (45×35x45 mm). mass appears hypointense on T1 and hyperintense on FLAIR and T2 WI. there is peri-focal edema, which appears hypointense on T1 and hyperintense on T2 WI. there is low intensity areas within the mass, which show blooming on GRE, suggestive of calcifications.
2) both the cerebral hemispheres show normal MR morphology, signal intensity and gray-white mater differentiation.
3) both lateral ventricles and third ventricle is normal in size.
4) brain stem and cerebellar hemispheres are showing normal MR morphology, signal intensity and outline.
5) fourth ventricle is normal in size and midline in position.
6) basal cisterns are normally visualized.
7) no midline shift is seen.
*) Sella is normal in size. Pituitary gland is visualized normally with both anterior and posterior lobes showing normal signal intensity.

IMPRESSION:- LEFT FRONTAL CONXEXITY PARAFALCINE EXTRA-AXIAL MASS SUGGESTIVE OF MENINGIOMA.

( Screening of whole spine was done which shows degenerative changes in vertebral bodies with evidence of mild posterior disc bulge at C4-C5 and C5-C6 levels with mild indentation of thecal sac).

all other reports like blood report, ecg, xray are very normal……..

so if anyone can guide accordingly or can let me know the extent to which it can be dangerous, i shall be highly thankful.

neurologist refferd for immediate surgery which my family is not ready for as of now. SO as of now one doctor(homeopathic) has claimed that he can treat it within 3 months and the medicines which he has prescribed are as follows:-

1) Calcium sulfuricum 3x
2) Calcium fluoratum 3x
3) Silicea 12x
4) Calcium phosphoricum 3x
5) Natrium muriaticum 3x
(these 5 medicines together thrice a day and 3 tablets each)

and
120/m liquid ( 1 tea spoon once a week)

in addition at the time we were at his clinic he gave a medicine N.12.M

plz advice accordingly….i really need it badly………

if possible let me know that how much dangerous this thing is and if surgery could be avoided or not.
is surgery a 100% efficient cure to it.
And as a family what should we do?

Before I took the ACT I used The Real ACT Prep Guide and the 3 tests inside really helped me. Is there a prep guide, with real tests inside, for GRE?
Also, the ideal time to take GRE? I’ll probably take it more than once.

I am worried about my future or what I want to do or should do with my life. I am an adequate student, but I want to know how to be a brilliant student….I would like to be highly successful at my job and make lots of money?? How do i go about doing that??? what do i do to get a degree in HR and a jon in it as welll?? I am a psy major now and i am looking for advice…is there anyone that can guide me?? Please! I also have interest in social work but I like HR better…i was thinking bout volunteering and when i get my psy degree get a job in HR?? n maybe pursue an HR management degree??????!!!!! do you think i would need my GRE or my MCAT???

Excuse me!!~I want to ask everybody questions on English academic writting.

Some examinations like GRE , TOEFL and TOEIC held by ETS , are abiding by principles and rules of structure of writting essay sternly.

ETS also tells test-takers that they could make answers without
reading essay completely in Official guide of TOEFL-iBT issued by it.

Those are very important when wrriting a essay or formal (official) documents.

I am curious about those principles and rules of writtings very much .

Could anybody tell me more detail??
or what key words I should type to research on Yahoo! and Google?

I asked this in Higher Education and got no help at all so hopefully someone here can help!

First of all I know I need to take the Praxis I before I can get into a program. What can I expect from this test and what are the best ways to prepare? I glanced over sample questions and the ones I saw were pretty easy- do people even study for it? Should I go ahead and get a study guide anyway?

Also I’m having a horrible time trying to decide what program I would like to do- so if anyone can give me up sides and down sides (esp with regards to the demand) to the following that would be great! Here’s what I’m looking at:

MA in School Counseling
MAT in Special Education w/ licensure
MAT in Elementary Education w/ licensure
MAT in Art Education w/ licensure

My background: I have never taken any traditional teaching courses and only have one psychology class under my belt. I have one undergraduate degree and am about 2 semesters away from an undergrad in Art. I’ve volunteered with special needs children as well. The university I am looking into does not require me to take the GRE.

I’m doing my B.E… I’m greatly confused what to do after my studies…. everyone ll have a goal….. I don’t have anything…. everyone r born to do something… and they have to search for that….. people r saying go to GRE or research..etc…….. but I’m in a position not able to think anything….. my mind and heart are questioning me….. why should u do that?wat do u want to become? why dont u have any goal?why should u follow others?why dont u have ur own ideas?why cant u be something separate than others?
unless anyone have interest in what they are doing…… they can’t be success full….they cant live satisfied life….
everyone will have interest in something…. they have to find it…
i want to find out in what i have interest…. plz… guide me what should i do?

The book is giving the answer as pi.
I think I understand. The area of the triangle inside is sqrt(3), but the area of the remaining parts that are within the triangle form a circle that is half the size of the other circles, so the diameter is 1, which would make the circumference pi(1), or pi.

Since the perimeter of the area in between is made up of pieces of the inner circle (albeit not in order), it is equal to the circumference.

Does that sound about right?
Tricky tricky!

My bf is applying to grad school, his GRE is only 3 weeks away and he has only been studying 1 week. Its sort of like the SAT, but he needs really good score to get into the highly competitive school.

We worked really hard to put his recommendation letters together and now all we need is a good GRE school.

His mom not only do not support him going to grad school, but even want to take him along on her regular roads trip..its not like its a once in a life time trip. She goes on it all the time.

I dont know why she cant let her son just take a few days to study when his exam is so near.

She wants her son to be a mommy’s boy always because she is divorced and lonely and empty nesting.

The thing with my bf is that is never has his own mind…when I am not right there to guide him…he always gives in to what his mom say because he cant say no..

what should I do?? i dont want him to not get except into grad school and have to wait 1 more year for admission..

how about MHSA course.I am trying to go to strayer university.actually I want to do MPH course but I have not done GRE and there is no university in virginia which offers MPH program without GRE.How it will be if I take MHSA COURSE in strayer university.I need an F1 VISA.Can any one guide me about strayers?I mean what will be my chances of getting F1, If I apply through strayer university.thanks

I’m currently a junior in college researching grad schools. I’m really unfamiliar with the process and have a few questions:
1. How many credits does a grad student generally take per semester?
2. I am looking into ways for paying for grad school. It seems like many people apply for assistantships. What are my chances of getting an assistantship?
3. Does a 50% assistantship mean working 20 hours, 25% assistantship mean working 10 hours, etc.?
4. The program I am interested in applying to at a school I want does not require the GRE. Will not having a GRE score hurt my chances of getting an assistantship?

A little background:
I will graduate next spring with a Mathematics along with a Secondary Math Education major. I have a 3.85 GPA. I currently do research for a professor, coach middle school cross country, work at a middle school summer school program over the summer, am a tour guide, and I tutor.
I currently go to a state school. I’m not sure if that makes a difference or not.

I am interested in pursuing a career in clinical psychology (specifically a Psy.D) but I do not have a major background in psychology. I took a couple of courses in college for my major, but nothing extensive. To get into a doctorate program they say you either need extensive classes or a great score on the GRE Psychology Test. Are there any "Gold Standard" psychology test books to help you study for the GRE Psych. Test other than the study guides?

Hi Am am hard-working and dedicated person (BE.Information technology) software engineer Working in leading IT firm in India with 3.5 years work experience, I want to improve my career prospects[ Not only money, but also position, standard of living]. I am excellent at programming. I have been top coder of company but I did not get any significant career advancement. I have even shifted companies, but still no recognition for my programming skills.

If GRE – I can start preparing for GRE ,I can apply for Sep 2010 intake only. By that time I will have 5 years work ex and 26 years old. This is the problem.

are BCA students eligible to go for further studies in UK or USA after clearing GRE the same year? coz that does not complete 10+2+4 years of education? what is alternative way out, if not? Please Guide…….
