I will be studying Architectural Engineering so i need a good laptop to use in designing the buildings and i will be working with 3D Max a lot so i need a good laptop…

thx.

..I’ve been menaing to buy a laptop to use for college.. but I want it to be cheap (in prcie) cause i dont want to burn my parents’ pockets since they’ve already paid about 45k for my tuition fee.. can you help me find a store that sells low-proced laptops or even 2ndhand ones? I believe there is one because its already been advertised on TV, i just forgot the name of the store..

I built my own computer about a year ago. But it was just because my computer crashed and I needed a new one for cheap. I think i built a computer for like 400 bucks. And then bought a good video card later.

So should I use the 700 bucks I have now to build a good system? Because I’m sure for 700 bucks I can make something alot better than what you can get for a laptop for that price.

Also its good for college because I won’t have to take my xbox 360.

Plus I have a 22 inch monitor and it would be a waste to leave it home with my mom.

Here is the prices I have so far:

200 bucks for a processor
100 bucks for a motherboard
200 bucks for 2 gigs ram or more
200 more bucks for case, HDD, and DVD rom/rw

I don’t really need a video card, I will just take the 6800 PCI-E graphics card out of my current system, and put a cheap one in for my parents. They don’t need anything special. I’ll take the good stuff.

All comments are recomended along with product recomendations.

We have a desktop with a DSL hook-up in our family room in the basement. My college student children want to be able to access the web on their laptops while in their rooms. What do I need to buy? Their laptops have wireless capabilites.

I’m going away for my sophmore year in college in the fall and I’m planning on buying a laptop.

Here’s what I want/need it for:

-HAS TO BE windows based
-writing papers and doing school work
-downloading and playing music
-possibly playing movies (not required)-
-surfing the internet
-using instant messaging services
-checking e-mail
-all the very basic computer use stuff.

I don’t have a whole lot of money to spend, I’m hoping nothing more than 0/0 at the VERY most. (hopefully under that much)

Any suggestions?

What is the best GRE prep book? Kaplan? Princeton Review? Barrons? what?

I’m planning on buying a laptop before I start college next year…In your opinion what would be the best brand/type of laptop to buy? I want it to have a decent battery life and to overall be reliable. I plan on using it for papers and research and such…and facebook as well…any input?

going to be taking chem, psyc, math, writing in fall semester. I am not really familiar with buying computers and all, so if someone could provide some guidance. I want something that will last me all four years, going into biology major. What is the best kind of laptop for college, what do most students use?

I really don’t want to go past 500 bucks. My major is pre-med biology. I will mostly use my laptop for office stuff like microsoft word etc. Surfing the web…and of course downloading music and watching dvds. I would also like for the laptop to have a built in webcam but its not that essential….SUGGESTIONS PLZ….if you have a laptop that works really good suggest it.

I would like to buy a laptop for college. I am not an avid gamer but I would like to run at least the basic design software on it without a hitch. I won’t use it for anything other than college work and the internet. What would you guys recommend? I would like it to be as cheap as possible.

I am studying Art History, if subject makes a difference. This being said I am no good at my math and sciences!

I was looking for an apple laptop on ebay or craigslist for college.

I was wondering if I should buy used or if I should just get it new. Horror stories or stories of fantastic deals are welcome!

I need to get a laptop for college and I was wondering if I could use the funds from my Stafford loan for the purchase.
Thanks

Would like to at least the top five laptops that would be able to be used all four years of a college students education process without having to buy a new laptop. With the ability of burning cds and install programs with alot of memory, a super fast processor and price is not an option

I’m looking into buying a laptop for college use. I’m wondering which brand to buy, and it seems that it is down to Dell vs. Toshiba. I’ll be using it for college school work, music, and some photo editing. Which would you recommend?

I wants to give GRE exam to take addmission in NYIT. Although I am conditionally enrolled.

Please suggest me any good book which I can study for GRE.
Thanks.

Right out of college I bought a brand new car. I had my thrill but I’ll never do it again because cars depreciate so much in the first few years. Last year I bought a 3-year old Land Cruiser for about K (which sold for K new). I love it. Anyway, is it a smart idea to buy a used laptop? I have a desktop computer (HP Pentium 4, 2.53 GHz, 512 RAM) that works fine and I actually like the speed better than an HP Compaq NC6000 laptop which I sometimes use (and all I know about that baby is it has an M processor). Anyway, I want to add a used laptop to help me do business when I travel and mostly for surfing. I’ve got a budget of about 0 but I figure I’ll probably have to bump that up to 0 or 0 to get something that’s okay. Don’t need a whole lot of storage for files. Do want built-in wifi capability. I’m a big ebay shopper too. What can I buy? Is my budget too low? What minimum specs should I look for considering my needs? What’s your favorite beer?

need lots of memory for pics, great battery life and efficiency, and good price…college student
No macs, AMDs, compaqs please.

Im an incoming freshman in the fall and i will be commuting to campus (15 mins away). I have a desktop at home and was wondering is a laptop necessary? I am a pre-nursing major right now and im not doing anything with graphics or computers. My parents have already bought me a laptop and i was wondering if it would be a good idea to just return it?
im still mixed about it. im going to email my advisor and ask around. thanks for all the answers!

need to do a research on the number of college students buying laptops over the past couple years. need to analysis the trend and stuffs too. any idea where i can find information on this? (statistics, numbers plz. not a paper).

thanks in advance =D

how to calculate raw score in big book tests ..can some body tell me ..i cant undestand the charts given over there

and can it also be affordable?

So here’s the thing:

I’m starting college in around 3 weeks. I applied for financial aid and received a Pell Grant for ,366/,365 for the fall/spring respectively, a Cal B Grant for 6/5, and a BOGW for 4/4.

I know that the BOGW is used for registration fees only, but what about the others? I have already paid for my classes and books and registration, and it ended up coming to around 0, which leaves almost or around ,500 left over. Would I be allowed to use this money to purchase a laptop for college or no?

I am going to Missouri S&T for college this fall and need a nice laptop to use that has many features to go along with it.
